Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea

Hi everyone!

I would like to ask for help turning this image into a pattern:

I was thinking an 18 count, the number of colours doesn't matter or the size. And (I think) probably taking out some of the black around the edges might help? Let me know if I should crop it or do anything that will make the process easier
This is my first project in a very long time, and I am super open to opinions as to what would give me the best result.

ETA: Ok - I think I have made a bit of a pattern. I do not think there is any way to preserve the detail (especially in the words) but I am pretty happy with this so far, but it is too big. Also, considering removing the crest +words at the top. There is going to be a lot of black floss involved.

Can someone who has spent more time with this program (KG Chart) take a look at this? Will this even look ok when it's finished?
