Using hoops/frames for larger projects?

Hello!

I'm thinking of buying a square frame as two of my projects are now too big to fit into my hoop without crushing the threads, and a larger hoop is too big for the fabric. Any advice on using square frames?

im guessing your talking about using the frame instead of the loop? I guess that would keep your project tight to some degree. I myself dont like using loops or hoops, i just scrunch the fabric up in my hands and stitch away.

I've got hoops and frames.
I used to use my frames quite a lot until the frame was getting too small for my projects. I found that the hoop doesn't crush the stitches so don't worry about that. I know I worried about it but I was wrong and my stitches still look great! So stitch away with no worries.
My tip when working with big projects and hoops is to fold the fabric so your just touching the back of your work.
If you still want to use a frame a recommend one that doesn't require stitching it to the frame!! That takes hours and its a bit annoying! Get one that clips! Much easier and quicker.

It's easier for me to use hoops. It doesn't hurt your stitches. Mine have came out just fine. Just need to iron out the dents afterward.

The frames you stitch onto basically just have a piece of thick fabric that looks sort of like the soft side of velcro the best picture I could find was here:

I've never actually used that kind I have the one with the split dowels that uses pressure to hold the fabric in place.

I have pet peeves with both hoops and frames but the hoops I find are easier to keep nice and taught while the frames can sometimes get points that are slightly loose if you work on one area/side for an extended period of time but it isn't enough to deter me from using it.

Yep that's like that but not bent like this one. This one I've just seen on ebay. I think it said 27 " but I've taken the tab off by mistake!!! Doh!!! I wouldn't mind something larger for those really big projects. Once its in the frame you just need to scroll it round. I'm a little tempted to get another one!!!!

Wow, I quite like the look of that Lap Stitch frame with it's interchangable dowels. I'll have to investivate the local xstitch store further this weekend!

I hear q-snaps are fun! I want some...but I haven't tried them yet...

I really like my Q-Snap frame! It holds the fabric tension well, it's lightweight, and it doesn't have any bolts or screws to catch threads or poke your hands. I hear that the snaps can loosen over time, but that hasn't happened to mine yet in around 6 months of use.
