Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
Thanks Monkey. My bigger one is also my biggest project ever (around 13,500 stitches!) and I keep having issues with things not lining up which is why I went ahead and outlined him so I could work from the outside in since a lot of it is differing amounts of shading I figure if I work from the outside in I can just make up a square here or there with what I need it to be if it doesn't quite fit the pattern without the whole thing being off. Giving me a lot of headaches but he is one of my favorite characters ever.
I also want to get started on my Q-Bert charity quilt piece as well and can't start that till this one is done so I just need to get off my booty and get stitching. Tee hee

Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
I think I work best when I do the outline of my project and fill it in as well. That way I can take it to work and on the go without having to look at a pattern. And like you, I'm working on my 2nd entry as fast as I can so I can get my charity square started! I can't wait to see who is in your pattern. Has everyone else figured it out but me?........

Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
Thank CrazyCucco! He's definitely a dashing character! I love my DS so much, so any stitch project I can do to honor it is good in my book
Moving on to a different platform however!!...........Here is a WIP of my 2nd entry. What to you may look like a black blob, to me looks like hair!

She's quite a bit larger than anything I've done, being approx. 10,000 stitches, so I hope I'll get her done on time!

Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
Well, still around. Phone disconnected some days ago but somehow internet still left on, oh well, use it until we're about to move. Everyone's projects coming along nicely, still my personal favorite is Ashtar, only because of familiarity and that if I weren't stitching other choices he'd been one I'd do myself (will do at a later date, along with Jaquio). While not a fan of hyper cute or Pokemon (even though nothing against it) I do like the variety of craftiness in the Weedle one. The fellow with the tommy gun turned out nicely as well as the guy with the tall hat (sorry, don't feel like going back to reference their names or what games from...just remembered one of them, Professor Layton). Also, great choice of framing for Kuja, goes good with the character's hair color.
I've been hard at work with my second choice, this one is a sleeping portrait.
7 hours 25 minutes of Ultra Very Light Dusty Rose (#963) for her face and neck:

1 hour 25 minutes of Red Copper (#919) for shading and her lips:

4 hours 15 minutes of Pearl Gray (#415) and White for her clothing covering her shoulder:

7 hours 15 minutes of Light Parrot Green (#907) for highlights in her hair:

That's all the pics so far (20 hours 20 minutes approx.), but I'm currently now halfway through with filling in the other color in her hair (almost 11 hours spent on this so far), she's got nearly 3000 X's of Dark Parrot Green (#905) that make up her locks, but should have her done by Sunday I think at latest, then going to be stitching a border / frame around her. Looking to have the whole thing done by Wednesday plus or minus a day, will update again once completed. I was going to wait until I finished her, but figured may as well show that I was still here and still not yet finished with this challenge (Strider is cool and all, but he was just a starter project). I do have another in mind after this one, but will have to see how well time favors me in the upcoming weeks.

No one has mentioned knowing who it is. BMH knows because she helped me make him small enough to stitch but other than that no one's guessed so yer not alone.monkeypeaches wrote: I can't wait to see who is in your pattern. Has everyone else figured it out but me?........
The only clues I will give is he has spanned comics, t.v., movies, and games although he was only a bit player in the games. The portrait I'm doing of him is more of his movie persona than game persona. And, as a final clue, he is not human although humanoid.

Looks like the head of a Smilodon, at least that's what I keep seeing, even though I know its not (even though I have no clue what it really is supposed to be of).MeiTow wrote:Here is my WIP as promised. Re: JAN/FEB Challenge - Portraits!
Good. Glad to know my imagination hasn't gone too far (though it did for a brief period one day when I started looking up The Dark Crystal landstrider...yeah, seriously, felt like I was looking at clouds and forming my own images out of them). I am so curious to see what it really is once finished. Maybe by next update, if you show another in progress pic perhaps who it is will be revealed better.
This is about as bad as blackmageheart's black box with eyes, that one had me stumped for a while. I had thought of everything (Super Mario World blocks, you know, the yellow blocks with eyes that you have to spin stomp, only black instead...o-kay, yeah screwy mind here) other than a black mage's face (empty like a Jawa's, or Orko's). I tell you, it gave me something to ponder for a bit.

Hahahaha...because nobody's used to seeing Black Mage from the front!Miss Clawful wrote:This is about as bad as blackmageheart's black box with eyes, that one had me stumped for a while. I will be quite surprised if anyone guesses MeiTow's at this stage, although there will be a point where it'll pretty obvious
I'm so impressed with everyone's work so far, you're all amazing!
@kuja.girl - that Kuja is awesome, I love it!
@MeiTow - you can do it, there's plenty of time!
@monkeypeaches - your Layton was great, looking forward to your 2nd piece!
@Miss Clawful - that stitching is looking as awesome as we knew it would, great job so far!
Today I will do more work on my 2nd piece. I forgot how many stitches it is total but it's something like 13,000 - 15,000. So far I'm only working on the black, because there's more of that than anything else. I'll see if I can put up a picture later today!

Ok I managed to get a better photo - ignore my messy table in the background please :)
Glad you all like it, he was a pain and the back of the piece looks more like a rug than I would like to admit! And I'm pretty sure I know who monkeypeaches' is stitching... if it is a cartoon character...
