@ vtfitzc:

thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one who's methods are crazy! I just love how everyone on these forums is so supportive of each other (enter crowd going "AAAWWWW" here)
And you're already more than 20% done, that's great!

I tend to start with the most prevelant colour and as close to the top left as possible and then hope my maths wasnt wrong on the fabric size :D

@ vtfitzc How did you do the gridding? Is that chalk or floss?

It's a fabric pencil that I got at Michaels. I'm not entirely sure exactly what it is...It acts kinda like chalk in how it kinda wears off, but it's not chalky at all, and the tip feels just like any other colored pencil. I was using floss, but it quickly became too annoying stitching around it.

Anyways, I finally finished page 9! And yes, this is how I spend my Saturday nights!

Almost done with the row! When I do, I'll take it off the stand and lay the whole thing out for a little perspective....considering how much work I've put into it, it'll either feel like a massive accomplishment, or be incredibly overwhelming! (as a source of comparison, the largest project I've ever finished was around 12,000 stitches, and I'm already at 26,000, which is less than 1/4 of the final)

Oh, and on the plus side, I should have a job interview next week for a position that just opened up at a nearby school. I really don't understand why positions are just opening up a month after school began....

Think we all do math on our projects, i usually end up working out roughly how many stitched Ive done each day as well (usually under 100 lol)

Absolutely - sometimes I wish that i hadn't worked out the math on my projects because it's a little daunting - but then I can work out how many stitches I think I can get done while at jury duty later this month, and I feel all pleased with myself.

You're lucky you can take yours to jury duty! I had duty in Baltimore, MD and they wouldn't even let knitting needles in.

The reason I keep three windows open is so that I can see the whole project if needed (and check to see if my mistakes are noticeable at full scale...not that anyone would ever notice but me :P), have a close up color detail because sometimes the marks just look too darn similar with the black and white printouts, and keep track of how many stitches I've done total. I then divide by the number of days I've been working on it to get an average (choosing July 1st because it was easier...getting a little cumbersome now that I'm at 70 days) I'm currently averaging about 415 stitches a day , which is a little absurd. I try to push myself to keep at the average or even increase it, but I have my share of (relatively) slow days. When looking for the box of thank you cards to take on my interview the other day (which are not where they should be thanks to the move) Hubby found 2 projects that I bought YEARS ago. One is about 1/3 finished and I stopped working on that probably 7 years ago, and the other is barely started. I remember working on it, but I can't for the life of me remember when. It's been at least 3, because it's a dog and cat cuddling, and he thinks its from just after we got the cat, but I think I bought it when we first got the dog, which is 5 years ago.

So now I have 3 projects started that I need to finish, and 1 that I really want to do, but they're all waiting on this...although I do have multiple scroll frames and two hoop frames, so I could multi-task, but......Ok...need to end the crazy :P

ANYWAYS, I've finished the row, so as promised, here's the full project (well the large black aida with 24% done):

The ruler gives a decent sense of scale, and the cat thought it was important that he get in on the action as well. He even laid down on the project for a while, but fortunately he's black!

I knew it would be big.... but whoa. It's big!

And the jealousy is seeping in... If I never do this project, then something will be missing in my life forever. :) I'll wait and see how long it takes you first!

If I keep my current pace, I'll finish in a little over 7 months!

Oh, and hubby just recently noticed the full title screen shot on spritestitch, and asked why I didn't put that on this... :swoon:
