Do most fabric/craft shops carry waste canvas? I have been curious to try stitching onto clothes and such, but I don't know the best way to mark the grid. Is waste canvas good for small and large projetcs? Are there many other common techniques?
WIPS: Dwarf Fortress blanket, sailing ship stitch, shiny pokemon, moth bags

I would think so Pyper, I know Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's both do. I've only been able to find 10 count, but apparently they make 14 as well -shakes fist at starrley again-
I've never found any packs bigger than a 12" x 12" sheet (and I'm just not talented enough to try and line up two or more) so that's about the only limiting thing.

The JoAnn's in my little town just happens to carry 14 count!

That is looking so good! I am currently working on a backpack for college that I am doing a bunch of little stitches on.

Yeah not exactly little stitches on this one, but going through fabric always takes longer than regular ol' stitching canvas. The words are going to involve lots of half stitches and backstitching though so I'm trying to get eeeeeeeverything else done before I start that particular journey....
