Backing for plastic canvas keyring?

Post by Huskyteer »

My loved ones are getting plastic canvas keyrings this year; I'm just finishing the first one.

My original idea was to make two of the same design and stitch them together back to back, but I'll die of boredom if I have to make a second copy of this thing. So, how to neaten up the back of a piece of plastic canvas? The internet says to stick felt to it but I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas?

I am not sure how well this would work, it's just an idea, but I would try first cutting a piece of felt to match the piece, then I would glue it to the back of the canvas, and then I would do a running stitch around the edge of the piece (through the felt as well) to give it a more finished look. I think it would be tough to get a really nice looking finish by just gluing the felt on the back without something around the edge to polish it off. Also, you could attach the keyring using this running stitch as well.

Unfortunately, I have not tried this method, so I can't speak to it's effectiveness, but it's the best I can think of. If you do try it, let me know how it works!

That would be nicer than just gluing - if I can find my felt cache I'll give it a shot! Thanks.
