Here is what I have so far. The first is a 14 count aida and I think the colors are too faded looking, but I like the color of the background (sky from super mario 3) better. In the second one I used 16 count aida and I think the colors pop a bit more. The black still has alot of white showing through, but much better than the first. I'm not liking the second choice for the background so far, I'm going to finish up a little square before I write it off
Next I plan to do 18 count to see if I like how it looks even better. I hear to use only one thread for 18 count, what do you guys normally do ? I'd think a single thread on 18 would look similar to 16 or 14 in coverage.
I have never heard of doing a single strand on 18. You might be thinking of 22. I use two strands for 18 ct... I think 1 would be too little. Here, look at this for an example. This is 18ct, 2 strand.
I read it on a faq at cross-stitching.com or some site like that. I'm surprised at how many speckles of white are showing through on that since its 18ct, I would have thought the blocks would almost be solid.
Thanks for posting it
The blocks ARE almost solid. This was wet... Not only that, but where you see the white is where I started it a few years ago when I was less experienced. The best part to look at is the left side. You'll see almost everything is covered.
