project and suggestions.

So I found some cover buttons, and decided to make them into magnets.

- 22 count fabric fits a 16x16 sprite rather well on these 7/8 inch buttons.

And then I was out of buttons. They're not cheap, as it turns out. For anything larger, as a series, you have to spend a bunch of money.

Luckily, it turns out, if you have the little cover button tool for 7/8 inch buttons, you can use a regular old bottle cap.
So I made more.
Link's Awakening

- still 22 count fabric. It's the complete trading sequence from Link's Awakening DX.

And attached magnets to the bottom. It involved gorilla glue.

I like them, but I'm debating redoing the mermaid scale again, as it's very badly uncentered.

So having done this, I'm thinking that I'd like to make something quite large.

So this is the thought, and the 30 second mockup - involving shadow boxes and my copies of the original games, as well as my spare controllers. The title screens are to be cross stitched. Exact sizes are fluid.

Now, the question.
If I do the nes and snes title screens on 22 count, it will be almost the same size as the gbc one on 14 count. Of course, then the pixel size will be quite noticeably different.
Should I make them all the same size, or all the same fabric count?

Im doing the first one right now, and I would say to do them all the same size, but trust me it will take you awhile! The rocks from the first one took me forever, I just got tired of the grays lol : ) But it's worth it!! Good luck!

good idea using bottle caps! They work very well IMO. And I think you should do them the same size so they're uniform. It'll be easier to hang them that way IMO

love the idea of the shadowboxes, I agree with everyone, same size is best...it'll take awhile, but will look wonderful in the end!!

If you ever felt like doing the pin covers again you could try the pins from The World Ends With You. It was a fun game for the DS that involves you using pins for different abilities. There are a ton of them and they would be cool done on the pin covers.

Update and WIP, One week later:

I started on the Link's Awakening one first, since it's the most important one to me, and if I only finish one because I get sick of it, that's the one I want it to be.

By my count, I've played it through, start to finish, at least a dozen times.

This is where I've gotten to so far. I started with the blue, since it's the biggest part. I outlined it so that I could get away from the pattern and just fill rows.

So maybe another month and a half?

It's a tool to make cover buttons.

Ok...
read this tutorial.

http://sorrytown.us/article/how-to-make ... hed-button

And you can see the basic idea.
For Bottle caps, it's a little more fiddly. Since there's no friction fitting to hold the fabric in, you have to be creative.

That's where the gorilla glue was involved.
Also a few pennies, some aluminum foil, a paper towel, and a clamp.
(You make a little sandwich, clamp jaw #1 -- paper towel -- aluminum foil -- completed sprite on aida -- bottle cap -- gorilla glue --folded in fabric -- gorilla glue -- 2 pennies (glued together) -- gorilla glue -- magnet -- more aluminum foil -- clamp jaw #2, and make sure it's reasonably tight for about an hour)

Lately I'm finding that finding good finishing methods, from frames to buttons, seems to be the frustratingly expensive part of our hobby. Brilliant idea, the bottle-caps! Adorable!

I bet these would go over like gangbusters as Faire Favors at the Renaissance Faire, or at Burningman... (like I need more projects!)
