22 ct aida question

Post by scarlet »

I am starting a new project. It's the biggest project I've ever done and it uses 22 ct aida. I haven't stitched on this ct before. I look up on cross stitching calculators and they all say to use one thread while stitching. The pattern I have doesn't specify. I'm wondering what the consensus on here is, one thread or two threads?

Sorry in advance if I'm not making this post on the correct board, I'm new here.

Use one. I'm doing the April Sampler on 18 ct and I'm using one thread. Using two will create a raised, fuller look, but it is difficult to get 4 go-throughs in one hole. Just a thought. Haven't worked with 22 ct tho.

I often use 2 strands on 22ct, I'm doing so on the Phantasy Star IV Project I am working on. But 1 is fine as well - it really depends on your personal preference, I think :)

EDIT: Also, moved topic to better place. :D

Same (for the project name and the thread count ;) ).

1 strand wouldn't look as good IMO, I like a nice fuller look.
Current projects :
Out of commission after surgery until May.

Currently playing : Speed runs of Biohazard HD Remaster

I did this project with one thread on 22 count:

I tried using 2 strands, but it was too thick for my taste. I'd suggest stitching a few squares with both options and choose from there.

I debated with myself if I should post in the technique/guides board but I wasn't sure if it was only for tutorials or not so thank you for moving my topic to the appropriate place. I've stitched a few rows on a scrap piece of the 22 ct aida using one thread and two and I think I like the two threads better. I just didn't want to ruin my cloth or something by doing a big no no.
