Mario 3 crochet blanket

Post by rufusdampfer »

A great Christmas gift. I still need to do an edge for it and weave in some ends but other than that it's finished.

That looks great! I love Mario 3! I'd love to try and do something like this, but how do you go about creating the pattern for your project?

Well, to create the pattern I use an emulator and take a snapshot of the game. Then I use a free download program called iDraw 1.3.2 to draw the character I want pixel by pixel. The program can set up a grid so that you can clearly see how each pixel lines up. I've got to run real quick but I'll post more details soon. :mush

Once I have a grid for each pixel I do 2 double crochet stitches for each pixel. In my dragon warrior blanket I have also done 2 rows of 3 double crochet for 1 pixel and 1 single crochet for 1 pixel.
The colors are introduced by the jacquard technique. Basically you just work until you're one stitch before you need to change colors then stitch the next one until the last yarn over, but you pull through the new color instead of the old one. As you work the new color you have to keep the old color moving along with you and work it in every other stitch so you can switch back if you want. You can also just cut it and leave enough of an end so you can work it in later, but that's too much hassle for me.

That truly is amazing! Thanks for such a detailed response btw, I'm definitely going to need to try that :nod So have you been able to put the border on it that you wanted to yet?
