Crochet Granny Squares " Tactics Chocobo" Blanket( w.i.p)

Post by FreeNatureArts »

Hey everyone. Still pretty new here, I'm 23 and I'm a baker, Web designer, Gardener, Painter, Art fanatic who uses it all to Save and protect animals...But lavishing ones own soul is always good no?

This is a Piece just for me 8D. I've given away so many things without thinking " Hey I wouldn't mind having one of those." And thanks to the inspiration of the Crochet Yoshi's island yoshi ( Amazing btw). I changed a idea of making a Yoshi blanket, into a Chocobo Blanket! That's right, a Final Fantasy Tactics Blanket. I found the Pixels where close to the same for them, Plus I want yoshi & Harvest Moon Pillows. So Yoshi blanket would be a bit repetitive.

The whole idea is still in the building stage, I bought 12 skeins of yarn and will be using a Letter K hook for that uber fluffy cuddle feeling!
The pattern is in the Attachment.
Mind you the Green in the background will be a Maltiyarn two toned square pattern I made separate. The Malti yarn is by Red Heart, and the color names are " Seafoam" and "Aspin". But everything else is basically the same as the image.

But yeah, if you want to do your own thing with this pattern, feel free. I'm always open to sharing 8D. This was also inspired by the chocobo Train! so cute.

Updates will come whenever I'm not doing the rat Cross Stitch ( yes I'm maltitasking crafts) And when I'm not working on a scarf for my co worker.
If you want to try it, best of luck and look to buy around $120 worth of stuff if your starting from scratch ( including crochet hook and specialty yarns by Love Bereen)... They didn't have the Burnt umber of his last yellow shadow or the Light brown in cheap brands!

The final size is unknown, but the Granny square count is 37 on the Horizontal and 46 on the Vertical. And it all adds up to over 1700 Granny Squares. And instead of Stitching them together, I'm Crocheting them together as I finish the Granny Square to Strengthen the Seams. First pictures soon!

This is the pattern for the blanket, and along the lavender edge I'm going to have Yellow Tassels to match the Chocobo.

Great to see you planning this! You picked a very nice chocobo sprite, I'm sure it will turn out fantastic :D
Keep us updated and don't get discouraged by the amount of work, just think one square at a time.

Just a question: how big will one granny square be? Because you have a lot more pixels than my Yoshi blanket, so if you use 5 cm squares like me (which is still quite a small square) it will turn out very very huge. Maybe you should try calculating the size and see if it matches your idea of how big it should be.

CraftyMaster>Thanks, lol I'm at the edge of my seat and can't wait to see what the first parts of the chocobo look like together! I hope you enjoy watching it progress.

Ellentje>I didn't think about the size XD, so thanks for posting that earlier. I did end up changing to a E hook. Condensing the stitches though it now has smaller holes.

Last night I made five squares and stuck them together to get the total height( placed it down again and again to get it). And it would cover my bed perfectly, but the very last row would hit the floor. So I decided I'll make it half that size, so it clips to the first mattress. And It's still be enough to hug with. That's when I finally got the right size with the E hook squares. It's still big due to the size of my bed. But, it will fit at 5'7" on the Horizontal and 6'2" on the vertical.

Which I wasn't planning on knowing the final size till it was done. But now with measuring the five square strip to my bed, it really motivates me to do it even more!
Thankfully there was a painting me and a friend did that took 5 months to make.. did it last year.. So this shouldn't be as hard to keep up with due to the fact every square builds another piece, instead of working on the same spot again and again like I did on that fish painting .... ugh that was a long one.
I'll likely be posting a update by 10-11 PM CST Tonight. But thank you so much for reminding me that the size DOES matter xD. even if it would measure about the same now. It was a long shot before. And the project can go on =D!

Edit-
I have 38 Squares done, but didn't have time to stitch them together tonight, however. Tomorrow at my work break ( 9AM CST) I can stitch them together and give a update when I get home =D. Sorry just to tired to do that now.. And tomorrows gonna be a hard work day.

Anyway, sorry about not having a update, just .. not much done of the chocobo, it's basically a bunch of gold, Sianna and Saddle tan colored blocks without a shape yet =D. But tomorrow I should have the top of the head* just past the eyes* at this rate, and I'll be sure to post it then =D.

Thank again everyone for your Posts, it was a great motivation to keep going even after I though " Wait.. 500 piece puzzles are huge.. This is... 1702...ouch"
Sorry I haven't given a update in SO long, geeze it's been ages..However with family issues and some work issues I haven't been able to work very much on it. Plus I wanted my update to really give you guys something to look at.

The background of green shades will be in big granny square and small. But the Chocobo is small. I Basically used the Size E hook, and started the granny square stitch.. once you go to make the second row, stop. Do a Double fishermans knot and cut. Then Iron the piece down ( before sewing it will want to curl up on itself.) then sew it on.
With doing this on my lunch breaks. I've been doing more squares then sewing them at home. But thats alright, this may help and aid me to decide if the colors are really good choices.

I've finished much of the chocobo face aside from the feathers behind the beak and some of the cheek. But here's the Picture with Flash on.
( I found out it's hard to see the bright yellow from the gold yarn)
As you can see the top of the head is the squares all sewn together, while the bottom ones where just ironed and placed.
And yes thats a Normal DS as size comparison. Lol I didn't have anything else close by XD

( I found in the image with flash, it's hard to see the gold from the bright yellow.. So the one below is Without flash, which shows it a li'l better.. But I so need to figure this camera out and get a true color picture XD.
