Dragon Warrior - Erdrick blanket and amigurumi slimes WIP

Post by rufusdampfer »

OK, so I'm new here. Hello to all. This site has inspired me a great deal. I had no idea that video game crafts were so prominent!
I started this project because I wanted to do the sprite of the main character of the first dragon warrior game in some kind of little blanket for my infant son. I began when I learned how to crochet using more than one color.
I finished that and decided I needed to do more, so I did the Prince of Midenhall from Dragon Warrior II. After that I decided to make it a very large blanket for... me. I now have several more pieces to add to the blanket and intend to give it some ornate borders between sprites (columns, ivy, or something like that).
Here's a few of the blocks (and some slimes for fun)

In case anyone wonders how to do it
Large guage = 3 double crochet in 2 rows=1pixel
medium guage = 2 double crochet = 1pixel
small guage = 1 single crochet = 1pixel

I used a size J hook and have a bunch of yarn hanging off all over the work.

I've completed another in the line of Erdrick as well as the "token of Erdrick" and some additional slime family monsters. This project still has a long way to go, but I like how things are shaping up!

Still to come... the Prince of Cannock and Princess of Moonbrooke, curer, man-o-war, babble, and possibly a few others.

It's fall/winter again! That means time to crochet again!

I've made quite a few more panels for the blanket including the Princess of Moonbroke, the Prince of Cannock, Princess Gwaelin, a couple of monsters, and 3 orbs (from the Super Famicom version of DQ3). I'll post pictures soon in something resembling the final layout. Still got a ways to go though.
