Pumpkin Carving

Post by Krybak17 »

Since it's almost time for pumpkin carving, I thought I'd share these with everyone:

None of the pumpkins in these pictures are real. We discovered these at the craft store last year around this time and tried them out, and I don't think I will ever carve a REAL pumpkin again as long as I live!
These guys are made out of a thick, hard, foam type material, and are hollow, very sturdy, and durable. I was skeptical about how they would carve, but they ended up just like real pumpkins, you can use the same saws and everything. They cost between $5-$10 depending on the size, so they are a little more pricey than the real thing but they can last forever!
...and you don't have to deal with the gross slimey stuff on the inside!

Those are very cool! I would have never thought of using the craft pumpkins. I've decorated them with paint and such, but never thought of carving them. Here is the pumpkins that I did last year. Took me about 2 hours all together, and they were soggy and icky looking within 24 hours. lol I'm so trying the fake pumpkins this year. Again, kudos!

I like the ability to keep the foam ones, but I also really enjoy pulling out the guts and making a mess. maybe I'll do one of each...

The ones I used were from Michael's. The also sell them at Joanne Fabric, but those are a little more expensive and also feel a little different. Here is their website: http://www.funkins.com/

Might have to try that since my mother thinks we are "too old" to carve real pumpkins (21 and 18 are not too old!).

My friends and I tried the "fake" pumpkins last year and we loved them! I didn't have much cleanup in my kitchen (vacuum and DONE!) and instead of having gooey rotty pumpkins in a couple days, these are STILL up on top of the cabinets in my kitchen. I can't wait to make more this year.

We found ours at Michael's and Hobby Lobby.

the boo in that set is by far the best one! maybe ill do a traditional pumpkin and a craft one too. we grew pumpkins this year, got five good sized pumpkins ready to pick in the backyard!

if anyone is carving pumpkins this year try and get a pic up ASAP, i like to blog halloween stuff early to get people hyped up, so the sooner you get pics up the better!
