Yoshi crochet blanket (Finished!)

Post by Ellentje »

Inspired by the Megaman and Chocobo rugs that Bamiyan made, I decided to make a crochet blanket of Yoshi.
Here's what it's going to look like:

[The extension bmp has been deactivated and can no longer be displayed.]

It consists out of 864 crocheted squares that are 2 by 2 inches, which are all sewn together. I've been working on it for a couple of weeks now. Since I've only learned how to crochet a short time ago so it's going quite slow. However, there is definitely progress, as you can see. I've put a pen in the picture for scale.

So far it's been fun, but I still have a long way to go. So I'm going to post WIP's here to keep me motivated

I have a question.. What yarn do you use and where do you get it?

Thank you :D

I use regular knitting/crochet yarn for size 4 knitting needles/crochet hooks. Though I'm actually using a size 7 hook to keep it nice and light/supple.
It's the cheap stuff, so not wool but acrylic. I buy it at Wibra and Zeeman, I think they might have stores in Belgium too?

That is the best possible compliment ever, when someone says you inspired them  Thank you so much!!!

And this looks absolutely amazing!!! I know you said you're working slow, but for only a couple weeks work, seems like you got pretty far to me :nod I'm still not done with my Mega Man rug, and that's only with 1 inch squares xD lol.

Great job, and can't wait to see more!

Wow looks awesome so far!

Which crochet stitch are you using to make up the squares?

Thanks :D

I am making good progress, but I'm working on it a lot because I'm a student and have summer holidays now ;) just hope I can finish before classes start again..

I'm using what I think is called double crochet in English. I tried single and triple as well, but double has the best feel for a blanket in my opinion.

Ahh, thanks. I want to make a couple of blankets for my daughter and I wondered what stitch would be best - I'll try the doubles :)

A new WIP picture! I finished his head :D
I haven't found a good orange color yet, so there are some holes in him..
Right now I'm forcing myself to finish the upper left corner with all the blue before I continue with Yoshi himself, because I don't want to be stuck making 400 blue squares when Yoshi's finished..
