Re: Using hoops/frames for larger projects?
i always use a frame or hoop depending on my progect size. massive things get the frame and smaller things get the hoop. i try to vary my stitchy bits cos my wrists hurt after a while with the hoop. my frame (which came from a charity shop) is one with slits in so that i dont ave to stitch the fabric to the frame. for me that always comes apart!!!

A note on making your own frames: I tried this at home and found that to get the right kind of holes in smaller, lighter pieces of wood you really need a very good quality drill press with an extremely sharp bit. We used old bits of wood and they just smashed if we drilled too wide a hole with too narrow arms on either side. I managed to complete a frame only to realise it was chunkier than the shop bought frame I had previously rejected for being too shoddy. I have new respect for commercially produced frames and would only encourage an experienced woodworker to try making their own.

Here is a site that sells different types of stands-- Canadian company - http://www.hearthsidecraftworks.com/
I use the lap stand version -- except I use my desk so can relax my hand.
I want to get the floor stand but still just hubby to make it instead!!

Wow, those lap frames are pretty spiffy. If I had money to spare or my boyfriend didn't have a million other projects on the go I would bug him for one.
