Phantom Hourglass is underway. Only about 6 1/2 hours in now, but things are taking shape.
And in semi-related news, but I'm bragging wherever I can, I beat Adventures of Lolo 2 deathless! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TCY0AIpppA June, 2024, I picked up the game for NES Odyssey: the NES community collectively beat all 714 officially released US NES games in a week. I took Lolo 2 as my contribution, even though I'd only beaten it for the first time a couple of weeks prior. But, watched a few speedruns, gave it go, knocked it out in about 42+ minutes. But that got me into speedrunning the game for reals and since then, have attempted the game hundreds of times trying to beat it deathless (there have been a couple of breaks in that time to learn/run other games, but even during some of those, I was still doing attempts of Lolo 2, or at least practicing individual rooms or floors, just to keep in practice). Couple of months ago, I got to the last room, but accidentally pushed a block half a square I didn't want to push, killing that run at the very end. And of the hundreds of runs, only 13, including Saturday's, made it to the final Floor/set of 5 rooms without a death. But as I was telling people, it only takes one run. Few rooms I took a bit safe with a couple of backup strats, but deathless was my goal, the time would be there. I wasn't going to beat Rayeo's time for the #1 spot on speedrun.com (his run is about 3 1/2 minutes faster than this one), I was well ahead of the next best time, this was all about just using my strats and beating the game without dying. And we did it!
Several months ago, I submitted a speedrun of Lolo 2, even though it had a death in it. Just wanted to get a run up on the board and secure second place. But obviously, I was still wanting/working on a deathless run. But as we got into stitching my Lolo speedruns, my concern was whether I'd actually achieve a deathless run, or have to settle for stitching my published run. After almost 2 years of trying, I was ready to put this game to bed; April was going to be deathless or bust. But I started with stitching my other Lolo speedruns in hopes of putting this off/giving me a chance to beat it deathless. So, mission accomplished and once we finish stitching PH and get back to Lolo, I can stitch up my time for a deathless Lolo 2 run. For those curious, Lolo 1J is my next objective. Runs on the same engine as 2U and shares 5 rooms with it (4 or 5 other rooms were also used in 3U). Few weeks ago, I started work on the game, just trying to pick things up. Third full run of the game, we beat it with only two deaths and in the process, set a new world record! Haven't submitted that run yet just because I want to see what we can do with the game in the coming weeks/months and yeah, maybe shoot for a deathless run of it, too. And if we can't improve our time, well, I at least have this current recording.
