Sprite Stitch Wiki - Editing Questions

Post by kuja.girl »

Volunteers ask your questions here!
Make sure you read the guide on how to make pattern pages before you start editing.

Known issues:
  • Make all tags lowercase. There is a sorting bug with tags with capital letters.
  • Inserting a link to an image file is tricky. If all else fails, try using Edit >SAVE >Wikitext Editor and then deleting any extra code around the line with the [[image]] tag. Sometimes extra "spans" and "styles" slip in there. If you have a problem with a particular page send me a PM or list it here.

You don't need to update the pattern lists with the new wiki links.
The lists will eventually be deleted - just use them as a "to-do list."

IHateThatGuy - I like how you added links to the posts with the files. Try to make them open in the same window (not a new window) if you can.

Getting a linked image to appear is tricky. Make sure you read the guide as it walks you through the process. If it still isn't working (I had this happen to me today) then examine the mark-up text by using the "wikitext" editor hidden in the save button.

Alright, I'll go back and edit the files. I did it so they'd open in a new window in case people close that window after and because it's easier than just clicking "back" all of the time. Eventually will there be people designated to update certain areas of the Wiki? IE: Someone to keep updating the Mario section?

I'm also tempted to update some threads with PDF versions of STH or PAT only files for ease and convenience or will that be another task for another time?

It's not a big deal - but it breaks "web convention" to have them open in a new window (and it's slightly more work to have everyone do this).

Yes. We lost the person who used to keep the lists up to date for us sometime last year. Once we catch up the idea is for people to each have an area/topic that they keep up to-date as patterns are added.

That's up to you. Historically PDFs were added when people requested them or shortly after a pattern was posted but there's no reason for you to not reply with a new shiny PDF ;)

I finally finished my projects for school, so I wanted to start working on this. I made my first new page, and decided I wanted to change the name. It won't let me rename it (says I need to be an organizer to do that) and Delete is disabled so I can't just start over. Any suggestions? With so many Mario patterns, I'm sure to run into this again.

If you really need a page name change PM me on the wiki with the current and new names and I"ll make the change (or deletions). There is no way around this as we don't want page names to be changed very often or deleted.

The page names are not as important on the wiki as they are on the forum since you can search by page content and tags - not just the titles.

It's not a big deal, I just didn't realize ahead of time that I wouldn't be able to change it. Now I know!

It took me a while to figure this out why this was a restricted feature. Turns out it's because unlike the forum the wiki uses the page name to generate the URL - which is why they shouldn't be changed very often ;)

Got it. Also, I saw you said we don't need to update the lists with the new pages we create, but should we delete the old links as we go? This would make it easier to keep track of as a "to-do" list.

You can do that or just put a note next to it that says "done" or something. How you handle your section/list is up to you, just let me know when I can delete the old page!
(I've been moving the ones I made pages to to the bottom of the page under a different heading for example)
