Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
Something else I was thinking about this morning is there will probably be people that will sign up, have every intention of stitching and contributing, but then we don't get their work. We should probably have 2-3 designated filler people that stitch super fast. If I don't get a piece by Aug 1 (and they don't say it is in the mail), we can get the filler people to step in.
Or we could also plan to make 2-4 extra pieces. If everyone makes their pieces, then the extras could be turned into a throw pillow!

I volunteer to be one of those people if that is the plan. =]tnitnetny wrote:Something else I was thinking about this morning is there will probably be people that will sign up, have every intention of stitching and contributing, but then we don't get their work. Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
I had thought of this as well. I had planned on being ready to make an extra square or two to fill in. Hopefully this won't happen, but I think even if it does we'll have more than enough squares that it won't be a huge issue and I'm sure there are enough people here that will be happy to bust out an extra square or two.

Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
Just bumping this thread again. If you haven't signed up yet here's the link again https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key ... l=en#gid=0
And here are the specifics for the squares:
16 count white/off-white (no colored) aida
6"x6" (96x96 stitches) working space
We need at least 4.5" border on each side so:
at LEAST 15"x15" total canvas size
Also, plan on sending $2-$3 per square to cover the cost of quilting materials(not finalized yet, but plan for it)
I think we're going to "close" signups at 11:59 Jan 2 and start working on getting squares assigned to people. It seems like we have enough interest to do both a Zelda and a Final Fantasy themed quilt along with the miscellaneous quilt. Unless someone does it first I'll do another google doc for those two quilts after Thanksgiving so we don't get any repeats.
On a side note, Child's Play kicked off two weeks ago and has already made close to $500,000 thanks to year round support. Their charity dinner is Dec 7 in Seattle and they usually post pictures of the silent auction items. I'll keep my eyes open and look for any crafted items this year and see what they go for. Thanks for chipping in, everyone, I'm excited to get this underway.

I hope you guys don't mind a newbie signing up.
This just sounds really awesome and I'd love to help the cause.
I only dare to sign up for a square or 2 at this time, since I know how hectic my college shedule can get.
But with nearly a year to complete them, I can't imagine 2 squares being any sort of problem. ^^

Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
So I'm going to give a shot to doing sign-ups for the Zelda and Final Fantasy quilts. I think the best way to do this is to have people sign up with a very brief description of what they want to do, but for now just put your name if you're interested at least. An example would be something like "octorok and gannon with heart in middle" or "Blackmage riding bahamut" or "just blackmage" (no laughing at my horrible examples). I put two columns, but I think if the scenes are different enough even with the same characters it won't matter. I think that we can keep this list open until at least February to give people time to come up with ideas after they're done with their Christmas stuff. Feel free to change your idea as much as you want, the google doc isn't going anywhere. If there's any kind of significant overlap in ideas we can address it then, but I don't think that will be a problem. There's probably a better way to do this, but I can't think of it so if anyone has any suggestions speak up! I think eventually we'll want to post the patterns so everyone can see them, but that's a problem for another day.

Final Fantasy: https://spreadsheets0.google.com/ccc?ke ... j9wI#gid=0
I think it might be best to keep it to one square per themed quilt, MAYBE two if you just can't help yourself, to keep it simple and so everyone that wants can put in something without fear of lots of overlap or a huge quilt. What do you guys think of that? Keep in mind that we're doing two themed and the miscellaneous one.

Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
I've signed up to both, and put some tentative ideas down for things I'd be interested in doing for the quilts
I'm not locked in, though, so if someone else wants to do the same things I'd be happy for them to do so!

Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
I signed up for the Zelda quilt with a first basic idea.
I was wondering though...
Could we fill in the background of a design with, for instance, typical zelda dungeon tiles?
I think it would fit the idea I have in mind for a design, but it might give the same effect as stitching on colored aida, since you'd end up without any white in the background.

I think we decided (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that filling in is A-OK, we just didn't want non-whiteish aida to be used.
