I am inspired to start a giant stitching project, but I'm having trouble finding cuts of Aida cloth that are big enough. Here are my questions:
1) Where do people get their large fabric pieces?
2) Can several small pieces of Aida be stitched together well enough to make a single big one?
2) Is Evenweave more worthwhile than Aida for large projects? The fabric seems easier to find, at any rate.
3) Where do people purchase black cloth?
Any answers will be appreciated! Thanks everybody.

I apologize that this is the same topic as a thread from about a month ago. I thought I'd scanned all of the subject titles well enough to know I wasn't duplicating something someone already asked, but... -__- Oh well.
Replies here will still be welcome.

Re: Where to Find Large Pieces of Aida?
Lol, never mind, can't have too many answers imo

1)Ebay
2)I think it could be done, but I'm only basing this off something I did for a hole in a project - I basically had a small patch and continued sewing the pattern from the main piece on to the patch to hide the hole. I had to line up the holes to do it... So, you could probably stitch em together but I think maybe you'd have to hide the stitches somehow? Maybe someone here with more knowledge can answer this one better than I can
2)Can be, I sometimes use a 22ct evenweave and stitch on it like I would on aida, it's great for the projects that are large in pixel/stitch size and also good for stuff that looks better when you use smaller crosses
3)Ebay (it's the only place I can get it for a reasonable price)
I hope that helps a little ^^
These are just my ideas, other people may have better onesAutumn wrote: 1) Where do people get their large fabric pieces?

You could probably do it but I imagine it would be annoying to get everything lined up right and you might also see a faint line or thicker section based on where it was sewn together. You could always try splicing together two small piece and see how it goes. I'd also imagine how full your stitches are would have an impact on the finished look, if you stitch with more strands it would probably be less noticable.Autumn wrote:2) Can several small pieces of Aida be stitched together well enough to make a single big one?
I know Joann's sells basic black aida in 14ct but that is it the rest you'll have to special order or get lucky and find it at a specialty shop.Autumn wrote:3) Where do people purchase black cloth?
A Stitch is Worth... How much is a stitch worth?

Blackmageheart: Thanks so much for the input. I've been looking around on eBay since you mentioned it, and educating myself as to what "fat quarters" and "fat halves" are. ^__^ Also, I love your new icon. It is adorable.
Corbin: Thanks for the reply! I might try the patchwork experiment, but in the meantime it seems I can get large enough pieces if I purchase them off the bolt. And you're so right about black cloth: I too have only ever seen it in larger counts in the big chain stores, when I see it at all. I find it amusing that so much of what we do here in this cross-stitching community depends on a black background; I wonder if the day will come when our sorts of crafters will become standard enough to be catered to alongside the "traditional" stitchers, and we'll start seeing materials aimed at us in those store aisles. :D

I also find it rather amusing, and I pray for the day we are considered "mainstream"!Autumn wrote:I find it amusing that so much of what we do here in this cross-stitching community depends on a black background; I wonder if the day will come when our sorts of crafters will become standard enough to be catered to alongside the "traditional" stitchers, and we'll start seeing materials aimed at us in those store aisles.

My local craftstore just orders large packages of Aida for me. Usually takes a couple weeks but that's ok by me. Just go to them with dimensions and they should help you.
