Magic the Gathering Deck Box

Post by residentgeek »

For a mutual friend's birthday, another friend and I decided to make him a deck box. Since our house rules dictate we all have to play with 3 colors, our decks are about 90 cards and won't fit in the standard deck boxes.

My friend built the box out of 3/4" hickory and I woodburned and painted the top. Then we felted the inside (not all that well :o)).

It has room for two 90+ card decks, and a center section for dice and counters.

Here's the initial layout of the lid:

And the final product (the paint was acrylic, and then it was sanded a little after it dried):

The inside (excuse the rough edges on the felt, it was the first time for both of us :o)):

I am not into Magic, but that is a really cool deck box. It looks like it's very well put together, and the paint job looks PERFECT.

I don't think it matters if you play/like Magic or not. This deck box looks awesome! I like the design and the lid especially!
Good job

Thanks :D

The "distressed" look came about by accident. I was originally going to just put a light color wash on the area but the blue ended up too thick. I let it dry and sanded it off to reapply it. The friend that built the box looked over my shoulder and fell in love with the look, so we repeated it on the other colors.

Glad you guys liked it. My friend was pretty impressed. He didn't cry though, so we have to come up with something even more epic for next year.

This looks fantastic! I'd love to be able to make something like this for my boyfriend's pokemon cards.
