Do You Iron Both Sides?

Post by larudden »

OK, so I'm totally new to this but feel an obsession coming on!

Do you iron both sides of your project? If not, is the unironed side the "right" side and, if so, do you have to "flip" patterns before starting?

Thanks for helping this newbie!

thats totally up to you in the end...ironing both sides helps keep your projects more rigid...so for bigger things, that might be what you want to prevent breaking. Also depending on how well you iron your project, you might want to display the other side for showing

I can see where you'd definitely have to do that for bigger projects. I like the coasters I've seen but wasn't sure whether to iron or not. Thanks for the help!

Hi! Welcome to the hobby :)

I only iron one side, and use the non-ironed side for display. Just personal preference, I like that the display side is 100% even (meaning that all the beads look the same), which I can't do if I've ironed it. Haven't really had any problems with things falling apart, my biggest project being the Raphael I made some time back (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=377)

Edit:
With coasters, I'd iron both sides - they'll be getting a lot of wear and tear.

I always iron both sides to make sure it stays together. Sometimes i'll flip the image before I start beading so I can iron the top really well and just a light iron on the other side (display side) so the beads are even.

I always iron on both sides, and I do a lot of "big" projects. Even my small sprites I iron on both sides because they're so vulnerable to damage. I iron the underside more than the display side. I try to only iron the display side juuuust enough so that I can flip it and iron the underside solid. They display better in general, I find, when you iron them like that. Easier to photograph, since flash will reveal all the little "holes" left behind.

Thanks, everyone, for all the great responses. I think I'm gonna like this new obsession. I'm on vacation right now but, when I get home next week, I think I'll make a trip to the store for beads. Weeeeeeeeeeee!
