What is the best bead supplier?

Post by Kashi »

Hey!

I got a bunch of perler beads and some pegboards at a local
craft store a few days ago, because I've always liked the idea
of making video game sprites out of the beads but could never
find them for sale before! O_O

The only thing I was able to finish was this, a very basic sprite: :moog

. . . because I ran out of beads! I managed to make two other
sprites about halfway through, but I don't have enough beads
or the right color beads to finish either of them, and I am loath
to take them apart again. I was wondering where most of you get
your beads from. Do you actually order them online or is there a cheaper,
more accessible solution?

I buy mine at http://www.koolstuff4kids.com/ . They have a great selection, affordable shipping, and VERY fast in getting you the beads. I would highly reccommend them.

I would suggest searchign Callahan13 on Ebay. She carries the widest range of Perler beads (even rare colors that Perler doesn't carry regularly) and Hama beads, the fuse beads from overseas that many bead spriters use to fill out their palatte.

Go to www.bluendash.com. I order from them. The prices are great and I always receive my order within 4 days.

I came in here to second this statement. Here's what I like about them:

You can order in increments of 500 instead of a full 1000. That's nice for the colors that don't get used as often. For my last order, I only needed to replace some cream and blueberry creme that I'd used. 500 offered a much nicer price and quantity.

They also offer bags of 2,000, and at a discount of the bags of 1,000. I am so glad I noticed that before I finished my order! If you need 2,000 of black, you can order a 2,000 bag and it ends up being fifty cents cheaper than buying two separate 1000 bags of black. If you're ordering a lot of beads, that makes a huge difference! And buying in the 6,000 quantity provides the greatest value on the 1000.

I also noticed last time I got beads from them, that random free ones were thrown in, which was awesome.
