Sprite Stitch Board!

So, I'm almost finished the pattern I'm working on, but one of the colors seems a bit off. It's supposed to be DMC 840 and represent the shaded areas of her leggings, which are purple. The problem is, it doesn't even look anywhere remotely purple. KG Chart shows an ^ symbol, but the color guide says ^ is 840. Did I grab a mislabeled floss at Michael's?

It doesn't look purple to me in the picture, but I think it looks good, as it's part of the shading. And yeah, my 840 is a dark tanish color, like what's in the picture.
