Ripping stitches...

Post by SofaraStarfyre »

Ok, I started my Dec. challenge piece and decided I don't like the way it's going and found something new to do.. I was probably about 1/5 done with it and it's a lot of stitches to rip out to start again. What do you guys use to rip out your stitches and start over? I am currently using a seam ripper.

I use either a stitch ripper (for those angry moments) or I just use a needle and undo the stitches.
But...if I was going to start over and had a time limit, I'd probably just start on a new piece of material and rip the other stuff out later ;)

Well, I would start over with a new piece, but the piece I am using is a remanent of another piece that I am currently using... So I don't have any cloth I can use to start over :) Me and my seam ripper are making progress and I should have all the stitches ripped by tomorrow afternoon since I am going to bed shortly (yes, we keep weird hours at my house...) and will be starting on the new pattern asap.. I am pretty sure It's gonna be MUCH easier than the one I was doing and look a hell of a lot better!

I use my needle usually. I have a seam ripper somewhere but I'd have to dig through everything to find it.

One time I only had one stitch to take out but it was close to 20-30 stitches away and I had already cut off the thread so I snipped that one stitch, pulled the ends to the back, and superglued it... probably a terrible idea but it worked. Let's just hope there's no discoloration, hah.

Yesterday I barely got anything done on the piece that I'm doing and I while in the middle of the probably 40 stitches that I did that evening (I was forming a cloud) I needed to move everything over one space. :banghead: Oh well. Hopefully I'll do better today hah.

Good luck with your new pattern! I can't wait to see it.

I try really hard not to rip the stitches. Not because it's bad or anything, but because I'm lazy and ripping it inevitably leaves me with tons of fluff that I HATE with a passion and takes way more time and angst to deal with than if I simply unpicked the stitches. That and I hate "wasting" thread.I usually do like BMH and use the needle, but if I'm not using a tapestry needle I usually use my tailor tips.

For what I just undid from the old piece, it would have been a pain to pick out as some of it was jumping around stitches and such. It wasn't a lot of thread that got tossed, so no big loss for me.
