Cross Stitch Magnets

Post by dangergerbil »

I see some of you turn some of your projects into magnets when you have stitched it on plastic canvas.

I was just wondering how you stick the magnets onto the back of the piece or what glue you use?

I know that purcell_a05 uses Mod-Podge glue for her magnets. And you can buy it in the UK, although I'm not sure how much it costs.
I suppose any kind of similar craft glue would work, but you'd have to check it's packaging to see if it can be used on fabrics.

Hope that helps!

I also use magnetic sheets that have a peel and stick backing. If you're going to use a glue to hold your magnets on I would use Fabri-Tac. I know in the States you can get the magnetic sheets at AC Moore, but you can get just standard magnets and glue them too.

Everyone else probably figured this out already, but I'm a learn by experience person - super glue is a TERRIBLE idea... I had bits of thread stuck to my fingers for days.....

I thought about superglue but wasnt sure if it would seep through and spoil the front. Dont care about my fingers its the project that matters :taunt:

Yeah, it got all crunchy :cray: and the threads that stuck to my fingers were ones that ripped off the project......

At least I had the common sense not to do it on a project I cared about....

I have found that super glue works on Perler beads amazingly well - just can't use too much or hold it upside down or it seeps through to the front...

Here's a link to the stuff I use. http://www.beaconadhesives.com/cgfab.html It drys quickly, so make sure you've got everything set before you start gluing.

Ive used all of these glues before, minus the superglue on stitch...but it is great for perlers....anyway I use hot glue to place magnets. You have to buy the glue gun which you normally plug into the wall , and then you purchase the sticks for the gun. you plug in the gun, put a stick in and let it heat for a minute and then you have liquid glue, and then you let it set for a min or two and voila, magnets! I will say this though....some thin heatproof gloves are an excellent investment...can't tell you how many times I've burnt myself. Plus not the best option if you have small children around...if you do i would go with fabric tac....its almost like hotglue without the heat.
