KG Stitch Dimension Question

Post by Ploegette »

My hubby recently started the mario bookmark and the dimensions given by KG Chart were 7.33 cm x 32.73 cm on 18 count aida. However after we cut the piece to those dimensions and gridded it out it turned out to be a lot smaller (4 cm x 18 cm approx).

Once he is done is is working on a kratos pattern that has a large dimension, but I have a feeling it will be a lot smaller than the dimensions given on the sheet. We don't want to waste the fabric again.

Anyone else run into this, or know a better way to figure out what exactly what the measurements should be?

Thanks in advance,

I just ignore the dimensions KGChart gives and math it out. So if I have a 40 x 120 on 18 count, I know it'll be 2.22" x 6.67" I tend to give myself big big borders, so I'd cut 6" x 10"

Beautiful, thanks. Now I know that the charts won't be quite as big as I first thought.

Another relevant point (because I made this mistake last year myself) may be the counts on a cloth are inches and KGChart gives centimetres. If you need to convert, I use http://www.metric-conversions.org/lengt ... inches.htm (then divide the inches number by the cloth count). Math fun!

KG-Chart is always off by 2x. I guess because he counts that a cross stitch is actually 2 stitches, So if you have say 14 count, put 28 into the stitches box and you will get the right size.

Which would explain why on some patterns I see the count up that high (one's on this site) which threw me off at first because I knew there wasn't 32 count aida. Evenweave and linen, yes, but not aida lol.

Next time I do up a patterns I will definately try it both ways and figure out the difference. For right now we were just doing the math.

Upon experimenting this may just be me as I have "Linen th/One Stich" set to 2. If I set it to 1 it works.

I've tried a few of the different ways. Right now I just take the stitch counts for height and width and do the math. So far when I've gridded it out on my aida it's worked out perfectly. Hopefully it stays that way :D

Hi all :)

I have a sprite image I would like to convert into a bookmark pattern.

Image
When I import it into KG-Chart I get these figures:

Stitch count: 241w x 42h (without whitespace around the sprites)
Finished size: 34cm x 5.92cm
Thread count: 18

Is there any way I can fit this inside 20cm x 5cm? What thread count should I use?

Thanks
