Keeping track of what floss you own
How does everybody keep track of what floss they own? I know there are some nice apps, but I don't have a fancy smartphone. So I use an excel sheet with all the DMC floss numbers, floss names, an image of the color, it's location on the DMC chart, and if I own it. I can then sort the list based on floss number or color type (DMC chart location). It's an adapted version of an excel sheet I found online.
Any other ways of doing this?

Re: Keeping track of what floss you own
I was going to reply in the other thread, but it's probably best to do it here!
Thanks for uploading your excel sheet, it's really very good! I like the layout and how you've got the colours in there. I'm trying to do that with Access but it's more difficult - I have to make a whole field for attachments, so that will take a while. I also like the sort on Excel, and you can do totals etc with functions. If this Access thing doesn't work out, I will probably go back to Excel!
I'll try to improve my database and post it here

There are actually apps for this?! That's amazing! Are there any for iPod/iPhone that work very well?

I'm crossing my fingers for an Android one myself!
I really like the Excel sheet you made. I just had a checklist I carried around with me, but not being able to track how many of each color I had always was a pain. I'll have to give this one a go!

I use an excel spread sheet to keep track of the hand dyed threads I have, but for anchor or dmc i keep them wound on bobbins in boxes in numerical order, then when i need to pull threads for a charti just jot down which ones i'm missing, any extras i pick up by mistake are stored in a tower of drawers with a seperate drawer for each colour, if i am running low on a colour i always check my spares before jotting it down to pick up the next time i visit my local shop.

This is a wonderful spreadsheet, and I am totally stealing it so that I can use itEllentje wrote: So I use an excel sheet with all the DMC floss numbers, floss names, an image of the color, it's location on the DMC chart, and if I own it. I'm a Business Analyst in my day job, so spreadsheets are my bread and butter! I would love to see an Access database put together for something like this, especially with some nifty forms on the front end to allow for a search / shopping list / etc... views!!blackmageheart wrote: I'm trying to do that with Access but it's more difficult - I have to make a whole field for attachments, so that will take a while. And with that simple statement, an idea sparked in my head...I love Access databases. Heck, I love databases in general. Yay weekend project!spinuntilyoufall wrote:I'm a Business Analyst in my day job, so spreadsheets are my bread and butter!
