Pattern Makers for Mac users

Post by SaraAusSD »

Hey guys! I don't know if you've all noticed but sometimes it's difficult to find stitching programs for the Mac. We're always asking others to make patterns for us and THEN having to ask for PDF versions because we have nothing to open those special file types. :banghead:

I have found something that could help some of you. I've been using a program called Stitches for Mac, a pattern maker for stitching crafts. While it's not perfect, it's a great way to make your own patterns, and if you want, print/mail these patterns in a PDF format. These printable patterns include cover pages and floss numbers. It's especially perfect for importing images to make patterns from. I've had great success making patterns from video game sprites (found all over the internet). And of course you can also make custom patterns of your own. It's great!

The best part is I contacted the company and they have kindly offered a discount code when I told them about or little community here, and I was excited to share it with you: HAPPY2011 gets you a 20% discount on the purchase of the software obtained here http://stitchesapp.com/ After the discount it's no more than the cost of a new video game

Happy stitching! :D

the two good ones that i have found is mac stitch and stitches, how ever they are only trial versions... I have sent KG-chart questions about if they plan to release a mac version, however i have not gotten a response!

this doesn't really help, but its a start, i would to see if any one else has any solutions!

I got the trial version for mac stitches, its ok, but i would prefer a free piece of software, or something that opens the .sth files found on here. I love my mac and i can usually find software i'm looking for but no dice in this department :(

what i am doing at the moment is using Q emulater (DL here http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/20830/q-emulator) and installing a Copy Of Windows Home that i have left over from my Microsoft days. now i can use the Emulater and still be on the mac. there is also bootcamp too but i find it slower and werid.

I've been looking into purchasing Stitches (OSX), but it doesn't seem capable of producing patterns with symbols/colors that are very readable. The problem is they don't invert the symbols from black to white when the thread color becomes dark, making it very hard to read.

If someone that's used (or uses) Stitches is out there, any tips for making the charts more readable? I'm trying to use Stitches because it seems to do the best automatic thread selection of all the programs I've tried (including on Windows).

PS: Since this is the only thread that's mentioned Stitches (OSX) that I can find, I figured I'd ask this here.
PPS: The discount code mentioned above doesn't appear to work anymore.

I used to use MacStitch but then ScienceDad made Spriter here on the boards and I have to say I think it's better at matching DMC thread colors.

I gave Spriter a shot but initial attempts just did nothing with my (16.7M color) PNG. I suppose I should try a little harder, given he seems to have put a fair amount of thought into the color matching.

Is there any way I could get a copy of your PNG so that I can try reproducing the problem?
Also, could you please let me know what version of Spriter you were using, and what version of OS X?

Thanks!
