Newbie Blocking Question

I just washed and blocked my charity quilt square. I thought I pulled the fabric quite tight while I was pinning it, but now that it's dry it's incredibly wavy. Both the stitched and unstitched sections of the aida look like moguls. (I tried to grab a pic but couldn't get one that truly showed the texture). I've blocked pieces before and don't remember them being quite this wavy, but I've never blocked anything that was fully stitched like the quilt squares. Have I done something wrong and should I rewash and block trying to pull the fabric even tighter, or will going ahead and ironing it make everything okay?
Thanks for the help!

Have you ironed it yet? Often ironing will fix a lot of things.

If you want to rewash, you can. It will almost certainly change things. I'm guessing that it may have been that your blocking pins were very spaced apart or that you pulled harder in one direction than the other.

Thanks Eliste.
I haven't ironed it yet. Is there any issue with ironing and then if I don't like how it looks starting the washing/blocking process over? I know ironing can lock in any stains so I always think of it as the "point of no return" step.

If you want to re-block, I'd do that first simply because I'm with you on the ironing. Then again, if you soak it long enough, ironing first shouldn't significantly change the outcome of re-blocking. Water is typically the "eraser" for fibers, but if you iron it hard, it may not come out. Up to you.

I had a closer look at the pics in your blocking guide and decided that your pins were a little closer together than mine. So I re-blocked adding more pins. It's definitely better. Still a few little waves but nothing like before. I realize it's a little silly to worry about this when I know tnitnetny will wash it again when she gets it. But I want a good pic before I send it off, and figure this is good blocking practice.
Thanks for the help Eliste!
