Program of Choice

I was perusing Servotron's excellent Comparison of Cross Stitch Programs as I've been looking into buying one. The freebie version of KG-Chart has served me well these past few years but I want to be able to make a larger pattern at some point as well as have access to a full rainbow of colors. I tend to make patterns just to have something to tell me where to put an X so the colors chosen by the program kinda get ignored.

So, what is everyone's Program of Choice and why? :D

I normally use PC Stitch and I quite like it. My husband bought it for my birthday last year. I had to get use to it after using the freebie KG, but it's nice.

Anything about KG that you miss?

One of the minor things was having the ability to see the center mark. They have red arrows showing it in PC Stitch, but I liked it being more visible as in KG Chart. Just a minor thing, really. I don't think there's too much that I really miss, they're pretty similar. Mainly it's just getting use to the different interface.

Does PC stitch have it's own format, like how kg-chart is .sth? Or does it automatically save as PDF?

It does have its own format. It's .PAT, I believe. I use CutePDF to put them into PDF if I need them in that format for sharing purposes.

I use PCStitch too - as other people have said it takes a bit of getting used to after KG, but it's nice as long as you don't need to rely on the colours it gives you...

I used to use MacStitch. Its PC Stitch for Macs.

But these days I actually prefer a little thing called Spriter that one of our own, ScienceDad, created.

Once I switched from KG to PC Stitch, I never looked back. I haven't tried any other programs, but PC Stitch has all the functionality I want.
