Re: Embroidery Hoops?
I personally use embroidery hoops, and yeah, they leave wrinkles, but I always wash, dry, and iron my patterns before I mount them and frame them. Of course, I haven't finished that many, but the ones I have finished and done that way have turned out pretty well.

When you are doing Stitch on the fabric or any other material,Sometimes it will give you the stretch effect and your fabric become demaged by it or not looking good,But if you are using the hoops then its quite batter for your work.

Re: Embroidery Hoops?
I'm getting kind of annoyed with using a hoop on my Discworld Death attempt because it's always slipping and I can't seem to get it fastened right. Ditto for the wooden lap frame I have. They seem way too bulky. I'd like to go at it without a frame of any kind. I guess what I'm asking is: Is it ok to go without a frame for larger projects? I'm just worried about fabric warping. From what I've read it seems that so long as I don't pull my stitches too tight I should be ok.
Any suggestions?
Also, can anyone tell me if Q-snaps are any good? I've heard of them but haven't seen them in my local craft store yet.

Of course it's ok! As you say, just don't pull your stitches too tight as that is what causes the warping, regardless of whether its in a hoop, on a frame or in the hand.Nitewing wrote:Is it ok to go without a frame for larger projects? Try it out, see if you feel comfortable doing it and go from there.
As to the Q-snap thing, I've never tried them but several people have recommended them, so maybe it's worth looking into.
Hope that helps!

I use hoops too. If you get it distorted, the tension could be off, plus certain stitches - diagonal ones for example - have a tendency to pull fabric askew. One thing you can do is spray it down with luke-warm water and then pin it on a cork board which straightens it out. Then comes the ironing and all of that.

Re: Embroidery Hoops?
I just got a q-snap today to try as an alternative to my scroll frame. I know i've just had a cheap frame and I'm sure if i felt like forking out the $ I could get a lovely frame... but for the price, I thought I'd give these a shot.
Has anyone had any problems with clamping a q-snap over completed stitches? I know it isn't ideal, but for a large project it's somewhat unavoidable. I wanted to check before starting something that would overhang the frame.

I have no idea how well it works with q-snaps, having never used them, but I've had success in the past with putting a clean linen band between hoops to keep the stitching safe. It would probably also work with the q-snaps.funkymonkey wrote:Has anyone had any problems with clamping a q-snap over completed stitches?.
