Hello all,
I'm pretty new to cross stitching, which I find fairly do-able, but everything else to do with crafts or creativity or anything I am just generally awful at. I don't have a sewing machine, and my sewing skills would make most of you weep. But I bought a cheap zip-up hoodie that's pretty plain, and I'd like to attach this to it:

I've searched through all the topics, but I can't seem to find any good advice for what I'm looking to do. I've experimented with waste canvas on an old t-shirt, but found it really difficult to stitch through the material, so the much thicker material of my hoodie would be impossible. I've wondered if I should just go over the outer red stitches again either with a backstitch, or another cross stitch? I'm a bit nervous cutting the aida to the very edges just in case they unravel, so I've considered folding the material back on itself and trying to back stitch it together, but I'm not sure what to do about the awkward curved edges.
Help would be very much appreciated!

I don't think that you will be able to cut the aida very close to the hoodie so you will have some frayed edges. Have you though about using plastic or vinyl canvas? You could redo your design and cut it out like a badge, then backstitch it to your hoodir.

Are you using the right needle? You should not be using a sharp needle, not the traditional tapestry needles (with the lack of a point) you use with Aida for cross stitch. It should be no problem at all to stitch through the fabric if you're using the right needle.HarukoBass wrote: I've searched through all the topics, but I can't seem to find any good advice for what I'm looking to do. Haha, no I wasn't! I was using a tapestry needle, it never even occurred to me to use a pointy one.Eliste wrote:Are you using the right needle? I actually just acquired a sewing machine. The only problem is all the instructions are in Finnish! I've never used one before, and I don't really know anyone who knows how to use one.
