KG colors

Post by star2assassin »

I was trying my hand at making a pattern, using some Yoshi sprites, on KG. I noticed that patterns I have downloaded from this website that have been created using KG have the same colors as the pictures they are supposed to be. My pattern's colors just look off, even though I used the same numbers from other patterns made with KG. Is there some setting I have different? Or is it just me?

Like all pattern makers, KG Chart gets a little funny with some colours.
i do know that it has a preference to (I think) blue, however my main suggestion would be to try getting a colour card, and checking the colours, as the main problem I have found is they display slightly wrong.
As for doing something wrong, neh, that's just software for you... :P You might wanna try another pattern maker to see if they have the colours as any different...

They do put out different colours, but most of the time many are the same. I use KG and PCStitch Pro and nowadays I find for most things I have to make a list of both programs' colour ideas, compare them to the actual threads, and then come up with my own list!

I would say this about KG though - a lot of the colours do come out ok in real life, but it depends on the colours in the source image. Also agree with Lord Libidan, it loves blues!
The main problem with it (currently) is that the palette it uses to pick the colours is off. So when it makes poor choices, that's why. It thinks that the light pink you want is actually a sickly peach, or that green is actually brown, stuff like that. A few versions back it never had this problem, though.

Do what Lord Libidan says - get a colour card. One with the actual thread samples if you can. If you still have issues, ask around the forums - a lot of us are good at picking the proper colours :D
AND ALWAYS CHECK YOUR COLOURS IN DAYLIGHT!! :D
