Wish I'd taken a picture of the back of my Great Fairy quilt square - 195 colours! You think the back of yours was crazy? :D

And as for the back of the project.......TOTAL MESS! I'm going to most likely frame it anyway so who cares!

I plan to take a picture of the back of my Helmeroc King piece-- it uses about 150 colours. I've been changing the way I stitch too, so it's interesting to see the back look neater with just a simple change of stitching that I'm doing.

Yes post pics of the back whne you're done with your project, I'd love to see it. I love seeing the backs of projects since the crazyness shows how much work really goes into a pattern. I think from now on when I post pics of finished projects I'll also post pics of the backs! On this new one I've started I'm trying to do only vertical or horizontal stitches to maybe make the back look neater, but so far I can't tell. The only times the back of mine look neat is when they are small with lots of big blocks of color.

Ok, I'm shameless enough to post a picture of the back of my Helmeroc King. Note that the lower half is not finished yet (that's why it looks neater). Is it possible to achieve neatness when dealing with 150 colors? But most importantly, do I care enough? The answer is clearly no

Honestly, I like to use each color just once, so I try to stitch all the stitches in that color even if they are far apart. It's going to be framed anyway and, as long as I don't knot anything, it's still going to lay flat in the frame and look good.

Now that I think of it, I've never ever stitched a project with an exposed back. The mess is always covered by fabric or extra layers

I'm the same way - and this is actually pretty cool, very new age abstract art...

I agree! I've always thought that the backs of projects are really beautiful in their own special way! Seriously!
I also do the jumping around on my projects, I hate having to cut threads!
