Metalic Threads?

Post by HelloCloe »

Hey guys!

I was stitching a Dalek for my friend and I bought some DMC Antique Effects E415 silver thread. And it's HORRID. It's actually almost impossible to stitch with it and it sounds awful when coming through the Aida. :banghead:

Can anyone recommend a good easy to use range of metallic threads? :help:

DMC is actually pretty good when it comes to metallics....I would recommend this product:

you can purchase it here:

It prevents fraying and seperation of threads another key is to go slowly when dealing with metallics, unfortunately theres nothing that can really be done about the sound...sorry :sorry: Hope this helps.

I'm with gamerwolff, Thread Heaven is a must-have, especially if you use metallic threads regularly.

Yes, go slowly and carefully. Use one strand of thread - sometimes I do use two but usually one is enough. And finally, keep the lengths of thread shorter than you would use for normal cotton thread.
And don't worry about the sound, although I would say that if you are hearing a sound you might have more than one strand of thread on your needle?

If you still can't manage with the DMC after all our tips, I've heard that Madeira metallics are very nice as well!

Hope we've been able to help you!

Yeah, I was using two threads and it was constantly knotting and getting stuck. Drove me batty!!! So I've decided to use something else to do the dots on my dalek for the time being. :)

Does one strand of metallic cover the fabric enough?

In my experience it usually does! Sometimes on 14ct I use two, but not very often, and only when I'm after a particular look, lol
