I'd love to see what you do with Access! I haven't worked on my Access database in quite some time as I have had my hands full with the charity stitching stuff, but I hope I will get back to it soonpredawn wrote:And with that simple statement, an idea sparked in my head...I love Access databases. Heck, I love databases in general. Yay weekend project!

Thanks! It might take me a little bit since I have to re-learn Access and my day yesterday got a little crazy, but I'll keep everyone updated if I make any breakthroughs.blackmageheart wrote:I'd love to see what you do with Access! Re: Keeping track of what floss you own
It takes up space, but I use craft organizers with the little floss holder cards they sell at Joann's or Hobby Lobby (in cardboard or plastic)
The cards are all in numerical order and I just pull out the ones I need for a project and put them in a ziploc bag. When I'm done they all get put back up before I pull out cards for the next project.
It also helps that I was tired of starting a project and not having a color I needed so I actually own at least one skein of every DMC color (did you know they make glow in the dark?!) so I /know/ I have it, I just have to remember which box it's in =)

Rist - I have the same thing! And have them in numerical order. I only have two of them (they look to be a bit bigger than yours in the picture). I inherited them from my mom. She said she can't see to do it as much anymore. So she gave them to me. I love them. It keeps them very organized.
As for keeping track of what I need - I have an app on my Droid phone that has a 'shopping list' I can make and search for the colour either by number or description.

Re: Keeping track of what floss you own
The idea is inherited from my mom, but she still has all of hers. This is how I've seen cross stitch thread my whole life! A friend asked me how I kept track of everything and she thinks my containers are crazy. (she just has hers thrown in a ziploc bag which I always hated because it takes a million years to find anything and the little number slips ALWAYS fall off for me)
I'm up to 4 containers (only 3 and a half of them are filled) but some of them are a different style AND I HATE THEM! So I'm waiting for a decent paycheck and a sale on plastic organizers at Hobby Lobby muahahahahahaha!

Re: Keeping track of what floss you own
I also have my floss in plastic boxes like that on bobbins...so much easier to keep track of it all. I have 4 full boxes and then another large ziploc bag filled with duplicates. some day I will have the time/motivation to organize all those ones too! I fine it's just so much easier to get to it all when it's organized in numerical order.
I'm also kinda OCD about left over floss from old kits and stuff. I've started a binder with plastic sheets for the patterns, instructions, and pic of the art. then on small note cards (way cheaper than the fancy floss organizer cards from the store!) I have the floss organized by number. I simply write the correlating pattern name on top of the card and loop the floss through a hole in the card. I use either CD sized plastic sheets for them or the ones with 6 dividers (you can find it in the office supply area of stores). I used to work in an office where we were getting rid of a bunch of that stuff, so i got mine cheap...and by cheap i mean free.
