When I first started cross-stitching I only bought one pack of needles. I've been really happy with the results but I've lost a couple and need to replace them but I can't remember what size I bought. Is there a way to tell from the needle or should I just guess? Also, does the needle size make a difference in the stitching?
Thanks in advance!

Re: What size is my needle?
Basically, the size of the needle you want to use depends on the count of the fabric. The larger the size number, the smaller the needle. I saw one site that says for 14 count fabric use a size 24 needle, and for a count over 14 use a size 26 needle. The main thing to keep into consideration is that with bigger needles there is a possibility that your needle will enlarge the holes and leave them looking whacky. For me needle size is more of a personal preference thing, as long as my needle doesn't mess up the holes I just use whichever one feels right. In fact, I'm not even sure what size needles I have. XD
As for figuring out what size your current needles are, this page: http://crossstitch.about.com/od/needles ... -Sizes.htm has a picture of different sized needles, so assuming it's not insanely zoomed in, maybe you could hold them up to the screen and see which looks closest? That's the best I can suggest. Good luck!

I use 26 for everything, and I'm loving it so far.

Re: What size is my needle?
Seconding this. I switched to 26 gold plated over steel needles in December (I have a mild nickel allergy and the cheap-ass needles I had on hand were giving me skin irritations). I find I can use them for really long periods of time with comfort and unlike the needles I was using before it doesn't build up oily residue either. Win-win.RAWRmonster wrote:I use 26 for everything, and I'm loving it so far.
