Here in Sweden skeins are ridiculously expensive at the craftshops, 15-16 kr about 2 dollar so I can't by all my supplies from them. I buy as much as I can since I want my local store to keep on existing as I get a lot of help there. I buy a lot of skeins and fabric from Tradera, a Swedish auction site like Ebay. There I only pay 0.70 dollar + postage. Thanks to that I have this summer finally managed to get all DMC colors. If you live in Sweden look for the seller isakatt on Tradera if you want cheap skeins.

Skeins are a euro a piece here and there's never anysort of offers to lower the prices. I've used Sew and So before http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ and last christmas I ordered alot from Crafters Market http://craftersmarket.net/, which is in the States but seems to ship everywhere and the P&P isn't expensive.
I think they're selling all 454 DMC threads for about $180 atm

Wow! That is expensive! I live in Toronto and I'm paying about $0.49 and I still think that's too much. I'm used to the good old days when they went on sale for 3 for $1.00!

Wow, for once I'm really happy I live in the US. I only pay 37 cents per skien. DMC must really up the price for exports, but it has on the floss that it can't be sold in the EU. (If you look next to the barcode, above the floss number.) Maybe that's why it's so expensive internationally.

Would also explain why Anchor colour codes are quite popular in British cross stitch magazines, but yet I haven't seen Anchor threads sold over in Canada for years now

I also use http://www.marymaxim.ca to buy threads, supplies and some fabric from. I live about a 30 minute drive from them and their selection is FAR superior to Michaels', especially as they seem to be phasing out cross stitch kits and supplies from their stores, at least in the KW area. Another good place is http://www.gittas.com in the Mississauga area. They stock the Krenniks and a bunch of other stuff.

My Mum often goes to a couple of places in Shanklin and Newport whenever she goes back home to the Isle of Wight. All I know is that there's more support for needlecrafts back home in the UK then there is here in Canada, which is really sad when it comes down to it.

I grew up in Port Huron about 5 minutes from Mary Maxims from the only store in the US! I didn't think they still existed! I'm glad they're still there, that's where I learned to cross stitch from. :D

I used to live really close to Mary Maxims growing up. It was awesome. Such a treat to go there shopping and now, they've actually opened up a second store in Toronto so I have them again! It is a good store (really good for stitching kits) but the prices are exactly the same to Michaels so it just depends on what I feeling like as to where I'll go.

I love Mary Maxim's, I can very easily spend far too much money in there far too easily (they're my crafting version of Ikea). I just wish there was an actual needlecraft-only store in this area. The way scrapbooking is taking over good chunks of stores everywhere is kinda sad

(PS: apologies to any scrapbookers on the site, but it's true!)

Another one I order from is http://www.thesilverneedle.net which is based out in Oklahoma. Very good service and quick shipping too, they're extremely good about making sure any backordered items get to you once they get them back in stock. Normally I just order kits from there because my Mum loves angels (and not the Eva ones either *pout*) and they had some nice kits in sets a while back.

Stitchville USA has everything and will actually help you over the phone. A bit more expensive than Michaels but I would rather support local stitchers. They did say they would mail to Japan when I lived there, though I did not need to ship.
