Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
I like the idea of eveyone working on a square of aida and then someone sewing it all together as either a quilt or a tapestry. As for the design it depends what we decide on. If a quilt, I think that individual squares would be the way to go, but it would be nice to have a set theme like all Mario games or scenes from A Link to the Past or something. If a tapestry, I like the idea of having a huge pattern that we all all do a part of, and then is sewn together. It would be nice to have it framed as well. (maybe we could get Gabe to draw us a picture that we can make into a pattern? Long shot, but might be worth it)
Someone is going to have to volunteer to put them together as well.
Not sure about splitting the projects in two though, do we have enough people between Europe and the US to make two?
I don't mind making a series of patterns to keep them all in theme as well, though we will need to work out a standard size for each pattern versus how big we want the final project to be and how many people we have taking part.
I think we should have the Child's Play logo in there as well, along with something to promote the forum as well. Didn't we have a logo thread going somewhere? Maybe that should be the next forum Challenge?
That's everything I can think of off the top of my head.

I'd definitely be up for this! Sounds like this quilt is going to be quite big with all this input =D!!

the site really does need a logo...I've been attempting to make logos since I created the site years ago...and I hate everything I've ever made....Servotron wrote:Didn't we have a logo thread going somewhere? Maybe that should be the next forum Challenge?

count me in for this as well! I'd offer to put them all together as I quilt, but my machine went PLOOEY and I'd be terrified that I'd mess up a square or something...although my grandma is the most awesome quilter EVER. We get a new one every year and there's ten of us.

Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
Since no one else has volunteered, I guess that means I need to step up to quilt it together.
If everyone wants me to be the one to quilt it together, I could take measurements and give sizes of how big to make the stitchings. I also like the idea of making a square that includes Sprite Stitch and the name of the charity (only one square should be needed). That gives us 11 squares for the others. We could definitely make more then one quilt. When I get enough squares I could arrange and quilt them. I would worry about that when I get to that actual point.
You would need to completely fill in your block with stitching and not leave holes to make them more consistent (background). For example it the size is 6 inchesx6 inches with an area of 4 inchesx4 inches you are stitching on, then the entire 4x4 needs to be stitched including background. It makes it easier for quilting.
edit: I haven't posted in a while, hey, where did my monthly challenge winner mark go to?!

Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
I agree with tnitnetny I think totally filled squares would look nice and clean and then eliminates any consistency problems ^_^ Also if we do fill the whole work space would count really matter or could we just use a range like 14 to 18 count? That way people can work with what they are most comfortable with. I think if we are doing series quilts a Final Fantasy one might be considered too since it is a popular long running series like mario and zelda
If we are doing series would we be able to do squares for more then one like if we wanted to do a square for zelda and one for final fantasy?

A Stitch is Worth... How much is a stitch worth?

I like the idea of filling in the squares too, it will give it a more consistent look even if everyone uses different colors. Also, I always though aida itself is kind of ugly. I think we'd all want to use the same count so that the stitches are all the same size for consistancy. If we pick a really common size like 14 it shouldn't be too much of an adjustment for anyone.
I was bored at work, so I went through and took a list of everyone that said they were willing to contribute so far. By my count we have 22 people volunteering already, and using tnitnetny's 12 sqaures per quilt that's almost 2 already assuming everyone only makes one square. We may want to either find more people to quilt them so tnitnetny isn't totally bogged down, or think about making bigger quilts. Maybe its too hard to make it bigger, I don't know. I'd feel bad if everyone made 2 or three squares and one person had to put together 4 or 5 of these quilts. Here's the googledoc of everyone I got, I think everyone can edit this so feel free to add/remove yourself. https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key ... y=CMr5xrAJ
I also think it would be cool, if we can make more than one quilt, to do a mish-mash one with a bunch of different games and a (few?) themed ones. This might also help if people want to do games like excitebike or paperboy, where there's not enough for a whole theme, but then we can have a lot of squares of one or two really popular games for the themed ones.

Re: Stitching for Charity! (brainstorming)
To continue from crabbyman; should we set some basics up, such as count, size of squares, and then see how many people are willing to do? (Just make a new line on the googledoc) so that we can then work out how many quilts and what games/themes?
