Super Mario Bros Powerups in Backstitch

Post by Stitchmond »

I did the Super Mario World suits and powerups in backstitch style, like blackwork, except using the normal color palette instead of all black.

I like how every color got its own pattern.

I thought it would add a little structure to the piece. Plus, if one were so inclined, one could stitch it all in the same color like traditional blackwork or redwork, and the different patterns would make the sprite show though...ideally. Like the image below.

Fun fact: the patterns are actually continuous throughout each sprite. As in, if it ends in one area, it picks back up in another area at the place where it would be had it continued straight through.

I bought 2 books worth of blackwork patterns at the discount book store last year and these just highlight my possibilities. Great work!

I know most people hate backstitching but I am one of the few that find it soothing. :D
