My First Cross-Stitch~ WIP

Post by datura »

This is my first actual stitch, it's slightly edited versions of the yoshi's island sprites. =x It's going to be a gift, I think. Tell me what you guys think! :3

This is what I'm using to do make it. It doesn't really have color indications or anything because I just made it myself and used whatever I had that was closest, but you guys are smart, I'm sure you could figure it out, haha.

Cute, looks good for a first project! Something nice and simple.

You should make it a gift to someone who's just gotten engaged or moved in with their partner and add their names underneath. Something cute like that.

I agree! great first project! :yoshi !

your stitches look nice and even too, especially the black stitches on a white background, which are the hardest to make look good.

I'm not sure if youre planning to, but consider stitching the white areas with white floss...I've found that I prefer it stitched (as long as its not a background or something)

keep up the good work, lets see some photos once youre done! :yoshi

Thanks a lot! I've been working on it for about two days now trying to get the hang of making sure the threads don't twist and stuff. You can tell by the back, which I won't show out of embarassment that I'm still new, haha. Lots and lots of squiggles everywhere!

Also, I was considering doing that with the white, looking at other projects to see which way I prefer it. I still have to add the peachy color to their bellies, though, so we'll see what happens! :3

I love Yoshi, so I love two Yoshis even more! This is so adorable. :yoshi

I'm glad to see you're getting started early with the embroidery hoop. My current project is the first one where I'm using a hoop, and it's so much easier when the canvas is held tight for you.

I used to use a hoop but I hated the circle it left afterwards and I have trouble ironing it out. I now use a scrolling frame, which is much easier overall no matter how smaller or larger the project is. You don't get any ring marks and I've also found that you don't need to iron your project afterwards because its been kept so tight. Yeah for no more ironing!! :good:

I've also started this yoshi project myself (I liked it that much).

I used hoops when I first started, then stopped, because I didn't like the rings they left. Now I use them again along with scroll frames because washing the project and leaving a heavy book on it takes them away!

I agree about using the white floss for inside the yoshi. It looks good without it, and it's a pain to stitch white on white, but it does look better in the end :nod
