If you're going to try it - a few things to know:stacymckenna wrote:Lately I'm finding that finding good finishing methods, from frames to buttons, seems to be the frustratingly expensive part of our hobby. Brilliant idea, the bottle-caps! Adorable!
I bet these would go over like gangbusters as Faire Favors at the Renaissance Faire, or at Burningman... (like I need more projects!)
the ridges on the caps hold the fabric fairly well long enough to get it glued, but after you pop the cap out of the button tool, don't fiddle with it more than you have to.
22 count fabric will hold a 16x16 sprite. Anything larger won't really fit on a bottlecap, though nice large cover buttons are available. If you get a newspaper, Joann's fabric often has 40-50% off coupons, and 2-3 1.125 - 1.5 inch cover buttons are about 3.79 pre-coupon.
14 count fabric is right out.
If you're serious about the Ren Faire, I'd point your attention here:

and suggest that the top three are 16x16. You can take the last one and leave a white space of whatever you might like in the ~8x8 square in the center.I'll post a photo of that last one if you want me to.
