A few updates on my end.

Parents made it made saftely from Israel. Whew!

While my parents were out of the country, my mom decided to put my grandma into a nursing home because my grandpa just couldn't handle her by himself. The live in a an indipendent living place that also has assisted living, but they have to wait for certain things and there's tons of other legal/medical stuff with that. My grandma hated the nursing home. We also suspect that they didn't give her all the meds they were suppose to. She has all of her meds in a bubble pack thing, so we know if something's been taken. Since this was just a short stay, she brought her medicine with her. All of her evening meds were still there as well as some of her afternoon ones. My mom is getting a little *. Plus, they tried to charge my grandpa $500 for medicine. Yeah...not happening. But she's doing okay. She's going to an adult day care thing a few days a week, and she loves it. They bring in a preschool a few days a week, and she really loves that, as well as playing Bingo. So...mixed bag there.

Aunt Lucille is still not doing good. She went in with congestive heart failure, put her on the ventilator and suddenly the family was told that they were going to have to make a choice. Ugh...She ended up getting a bit better, but then she got an infection with a high fever. They ended up having to put in a trach and her numbers are all out of whack. It's not looking very good, though she's a fighter. 4 feet something and she's got more fight in her than anyone else I know. Must come from being the oldest sister in a family of 12. Heh...

I'm also still stressing about other things. Going to watch a former co-worker's kids tomorrow. I remember one of the girls from when she was born, but that's about it. So...that'll be interesting. Especially as I was cleaning up the apartment, my own lovely child decided that she was going to help by taking my flour bin, and pouring pretty much all of it onto the living room floor. Floor had about an inch of flour on it, plus the couches, TV stand, and walls. *sighs*

And just enter another FML thing here that I don't feel like sharing here. Just know that it's here.

I usually avoid posting my pitiful FMLs, but this one has me so HACKED OFF that I need to vent...

It all starts with cell phone plans... My hubby and I have for some time, talked about getting a plan for 3 people so that my son can have a phone for when he goes out to play and what not so we can call him when it's time to come home or just to check on him occasionally if he's been out for a while and we've not seen him. He is 12 almost 13 now and has proven he is responsible enough to have a cell phone for that purpose. We currently have Verizon pay as you go phones for hubby and me and it's costing us between 45 and 60 bucks for just us depending on how many calls we make as we're limited to the amount of money on our phones, and we'd like to get away from that. So far the best deal we have found that is doable, AT&T for 80 bucks a month with basic phones for all of us. We've tried 2 times to order online and they keep cancelling it, saying they can't verify our info. I tried chatting with a rep today about it and all I got from him was the "I am a robot. I must spew out what the book tells me to say." thing. Seriously annoying as he wasn't helpful at all. He gave me no more info than the damned website did when I checked it. I think it might be the credit check that's screwing us over with them because they seem to be able to verify our address on their website, and there is nothing else to verify after that... After the second cancellation, we've pretty much decided that they are getting a big ole dose of "F YOU", but now every other damn company I look at makes them still look like the best freaking deal we're going to find that suits us since we want BASIC phones, no smartphones, no data (unless we have to), and unlimited talk and text. I've also looked into Cricket Wireless which is relatively new, but they are about as helpful as a 2 year old helping you clean. You can only order one plan and one phone at a time on their site and of the 4 or 5 times we've tried so far in the last 3 days, they can't seem to process our order.. The chat people say they are having issues with their site. It all makes me want to beat my head into a brick wall about a dozen times or so...

After dealing with many many cell phone companies the best word of advice I can give you is go into the store. They will call right there while you're in front of them and get the credit check waived if it's not passing. They are far more helpful that way. A lot of times the websites are programmed to not allow certain credit numbers and whatnot and there's nothing anybody can do about that because it's the way it's programmed to keep from allowing just anybody to get a phone because they don't want to hand out phones to people who can't pay their bills. As for the customer service hotlines normally they are ran by either automated systems that can't process those request for the same reasons the website can't or by people who don't know much more than Google tells them. They can't train them in every circumstance because almost every customer that calls has a different reason for calling or a different problem. It sucks but it's the way customer service works in the tech field at least.
I realize now this is long and ranting.
TL;DR: Best luck is to go into the store :). I hope it all works out.

My aunt, the one I posted about before, passed away earlier today. It wasn't a super shock, but at the same time it was. She had been taken out of the ICU, and was actually moved to a rehab hospital. Her numbers went down a bit, then back up. Within an hour, she had died.

It's really hard on the family, as the sister who had just passed away a few months ago, her birthday would have been this Saturday, so it's just tough. Plus I have a catering gig, but my dad wants to go down there right away....it's just stressful...

Food dye. Argh!
My kids are hyper-sensitive to food dye. We have them on very strict (for 6 and 9 year olds) diets. My daughter who is 9 is not as bad.
But my son, 6, has very distinct reactions.
Red = Rage (Incredible Hulk fits of rage where he can toss 3 times his body mass across the room - over miniscule and often illogical things, like you tried to give him one type of granola bar instead of the one he wanted first)
Blue = Extreme hyperactivity. Rubber walls and Speedy Gonzales style.
Yellow = Illogical OCD emotional pandering.
My daughter has similar reactions, and since she is more emotional to begin with almost always ends up in a crying fit.

Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to maintain a dye free diet in the United States? OMG.
Did you know that McDonalds chocolate milk shakes are full of Red Dye #20?
Most vanilla and most white food items have yellow, and sometime blue dyes in them to make them "more" white or "more appealing"?

You explain this to teachers and your son comes home with a blue tongue and when you confront the teacher they say, "Oh, no it's OK, it was pastry gel."

Dye stays in the body for up to 21 days. THREE WEEKS. And appropriate reactions can be spurred by the infraction without any warning during that time.

Well now we are in the quintfecta Holiday season. No mans land. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter. 6 months of having to trust our kids to make the good decisions. Make the right choices. Because their friends and their teachers, honestly, don't know *. And a grown up can smile and nod and tell you they know exactly what you are talking about, THEN YOUR SON COMES HOME WITH A BLUE TONGUE!
6 Months of Darkness.
6 Months when the demons can arise from hell and spew forth in my children's behavior.
It begins!

I have dye issues but just itchy rashes for me. Gravy browning once gave me a complete body rash during exams, lasted 3 weeks since I couldn't take Benadryl and study at the same time.

I hate how other people have no clue about dyes. My son's eczema flares up with artificial dyes but people think "it's just a glass of kool-aid". Behaviour issues must be even harder since then you probably feel like those same people are judging you. Just remember I would NEVER judge you. I have friends that ask me "You would never let your kid act that way would you?", my answer "Maybe there's no milk or diapers left at home and screaming through the store is the only way that mom can fix that". They say "but, but, but..", I say "you don't know, you can't understand".

As parents we need to support each other, don't judge other parents and please ask before feeding another parent's kid (and don't ask in front of the kid because then I'm the bad guy).
