I want to do this square for the charity quilt...but I'm not having much luck with either PCStitch Pro or KG Chart. It doesn't even turn out remotely acceptable without using >40 colors, and, quite frankly, I don't want to use 40 colors. I know it doesn't need that many....Can someone help make a pattern using fewer colors? One other thing...both programs also had difficulty separating the greens in Bowser's shell, and unless I set it to >50 colors, it was one solid green. I'd like at least 2 greens in the shell...really, I just want it as close to the original image with as few colors as possible....

The image is already 96x96 pixels (stitches), and of course 16 stitches/inch will happen with the fabric...I just can't get past the colors! Thanks for any and all help :)

I've looked through the image colours and there are quite a lot. Removing some would be possible but you'd lose the shading and detail of the characters. I've done a PCStitch pattern that has 42 colours and has all the greens of Bowser's shell. I have tried lowering the colours but it just looks bad to me

Here it is anyway:

No, thanks a lot! That's better than I could get it, even allowing 50 colors...If you say it'd look bad with fewer colors, I believe you! Thanks again, gonna go get my supplies right now...

EDIT:
....Could you help more? For some reason, PCStitch won't open it ("Can not open Super Mario RPG (klammyq).PAT. This file is not a PCStitch pattern file and can not be loaded."). The only thing I can think of is that I have PCStitch Pro 9 and you have 10, and the files aren't "backwards compatible"? Might I ask for a PDF or JPG with the image and floss list (and if you're feeling really nice, symbols over color)?

Thanks a million! Even though I knew how many colors there were, the floss list made me skip a breath. Fortunately, I just found a gallon bag full of DMC thread in my garage, so hopefully I already have a lot of what I need :)
