Sprite Stitch Board!

I was wondering if anyone has done a pattern for Yoshi's house in Super Mario World, I've done a Yoshi cross stitch for my boyfriend for Valentines but I'd like to add a background and this one seemed the most appropriate but I'm struggling to create a simple pattern myself, when I put the image I have into KG Stitch it comes out really blurry and unclean, if that makes sense.

I've attached the image I'm trying to use which I got from Spriter's Resource & the yoshi pattern I stitched already below
If someone could help me make a cleaner pattern for the background I'd really appreciate it, I'm hoping to not have to use to many colours and for a pattern that fits the yoshi's I've already stitched.
