Pokemon Logo Pattern

Post by faroresdragn »

Ive been stitching pokemon for a while now, but never anything too fancy, because I just didnt know enough about actual cross stitching stuff to do it. But now Im going to be doing a semi-large project: Im going to stitch a poster. Im going to take the party icons of all 151 original pokemon and put them in a 10x15 pokemon grid with their names underneath, like a poster you might buy. Im already in the process of making patterns for all the pokemon, But I just need a pattern for the big Pokemon logo thats going to go over top of it. I was originally just going to take the sprite from the title screen of pokemon red and double the size, but as you might expect that ended up looking REALLY jagged and not pretty at all.

So Id like a pattern of the Pokemon logo. like this, if theres any confusion:

Image

I originally planned for it to be 98 stitches tall by 256 stitches wide, but that doesnt have to be the exact measurements. And that may seem kinda large, but Im going to be doing this on 22ct Aida, so it wont be to huge. I dont know what that will make the size turn out to be in inches, but probably close to a foot or 14" long would be good. No idea how tall, but theres the width and i want the proportions to be the same as the actual logo.

another thing, you may have noticed 151 pokemon dont fit in a 10x15 grid. thats because im sneaking mew in up top. So, the logo is kind of an arch. So if you look at a canvas that just perfectly fts the logo, make sure theres enough room that somewhere under the arch I can fit mew, which is going to need a square 21 stitches wide and 23 stitches tall. make sure theres enough room for that in there without it having to extend beneath the lowest stitch in the logo, cause then itll intersect with the top row of Pokemon.

Also, Id appreciate something I can open right up in KG Chart, and also a .pdf, if that isnt too much trouble.

Thanks a bunch to anyone who helps me out with this.

It wasn't bad but I used a different image (yours was a jpeg so I found a png) and I shrunk it in paint before putting in kgstitch. I actually only had to clean up 1 colour and fix about 20 pixels. I think Mew will fit under the "M" but try it out of course :pika

Wow thanks alot! that really helps you're a life saver. For some reason when I import things into KG chart, It completely ruins it. maybe is because the pokemon sprites Im working with are so small, but I cant import them.

Im going to have to expand the chart you just made for me, and then insert the pokemon one at a time. That means I have KGchart open in one window, and MS paint with bulbasaurs icon sprite open in the other window, and copy it over one pixel at a time trying to match the colors as best as I can.

and ill have to do this for all 151. :cray:

but thats what ill have to do. The finished project will be worth it.

thanks again!

No problem! For making sprites remember when you import them to make sure it's a .png (or .gif or .bmp) and check that kg isn't changing it's size on you (say it's 20x20 pixels sometimes kg will set it to 19x19 and make it all icky). Oh and for simple sprites try to set the number of colours close to what it should be or sometimes it finds 10 kinds of black!?

well Im trying to stitch a poster sized thing with all 151 original pokemon in it. but whenever I import one, and then try to import the next, it just closes the old one and makes a brand new one. Is there no way for me to import all the pokemon into one pattern? or would it just be easier to make 151 individual patterns?

What you can do is to put all the Pokemon into the arrangement that you want in Paint (or similar program) and then import that into KG Chart. You'll probably need to clean them up a tad, but it should give you the basic layout. That's usually what I do, though I do tend to have to go through and still edit them quite a bit as I haven't mastered all the importing things yet. Hope that helps. :)

i think Im gonna have to break it up anyway, cause it looks like KG chart wont let me make a pattern or import anything thats over 500 stitches in any dimension. and my thing is going to have to be 644 stitches tall.

You can open kg chart twice, use one to import the picture and then copy/paste it into the other.

That makes sense, but even if I import it in one screen then paste it in another, it still wont allow me to stretch the canvas to any more than 500 stitches tall, and my final pattern is going to be ~640 stitches tall. Is there any way to make it bigger than 500? I mean that Epic Pokemon pattern has to be WAY over 500 stitches tall right? there has to be some way to do it.

Maybe the free version is just logically not as good as the pro version? I mean Im already noticing just from my 2 days messing around with the pro version that it has ALOT more colors available than the LE version. When I first downloaded pro, I tried to make the sprite for bulbasaur just to test it out. Just my first try doing the same thing with the free version showed me the color choice is way down. I even typed in the exact color codes I noted that i used when i made the bulbasaur on pro, and they just didnt exist in the free version. That makes sense of course, but Im wondering if the canvas size is also limited in the free version like the colors are. Or maybe theres a newer version I have to get? I dont know.

The size thing i can easily deal with by just makeing a couple separate charts. since Im laying out my pokemon in a grid with no overlap, its pretty easy to make it into segments, and its probably better that way, since itll be easier to manage in hard copy form. But with so much of my time and money going into this project, i dont know if ill be able to deal with all the colors being a bit off like theyre going to be. I might bjust have to buy the real version.
