FFIX Opening pattern?

Post by CSBint98 »

Hi all,

I've lurked around these forums for a couple months without posting anything - my boyfriend has made a sprite-based pattern for me to get me started again with cross-stitch, and I've been inspired by all of the amazing projects here. I'm wondering if someone would be so kind as to help me convert this png file, taken from the opening of Final Fantasy IX, into a pattern. Number of colors doesn't matter so much (preferably fewer than 100), and I'm looking for about 18" wide on 18 count. I believe the file itself is 320x224 pixels.

I had tried with a couple of basic free programs (I'm on a Mac, so options are a bit more limited, but I've tried pic2pat.com and MacStitch) to get a satisfactory pattern, but they either "checkerboard" different colors, giving a strange, grainy look (MacStitch), or there are blotches of different greens and blues in the water (p2p), which don't look so great. If there's anything else I can provide in terms of info, or a higher quality pic (?), let me know. I pulled this one just from Google Images.

I'm hoping to make this for the boyfriend this Christmas... or next. :)

Thanks so much!

This is what I got when I ran it through PCStitch. I think it still looks a little "blocky", but I'm horrible at cleaning images up. If stitched on 18-count, then this will be just a tad bit smaller than 18 inches. I'm attaching both PDFs and the .PAT in case anyone wants to mess with it.

This is awesome! Thank you so much.

I may end up combining elements from a few different patterns; I love the lower right corner and the detail that PCStitch got in the center, but there are other patterns too that got more detail in the lower left corner. Seems like the algorithms for different programs just focused in on different parts of the image. Strange.

I'll be sure to post WIP shots after I have solidified my plan. :)

Thanks again!

Glad I could help! And I would advise double-checking the colors against the original image. Sometimes these programs can choose weird color choices.

Can't wait to see the WIP. :)
