I've lurked around these forums for a couple months without posting anything - my boyfriend has made a sprite-based pattern for me to get me started again with cross-stitch, and I've been inspired by all of the amazing projects here. I'm wondering if someone would be so kind as to help me convert this png file, taken from the opening of Final Fantasy IX, into a pattern. Number of colors doesn't matter so much (preferably fewer than 100), and I'm looking for about 18" wide on 18 count. I believe the file itself is 320x224 pixels.
I had tried with a couple of basic free programs (I'm on a Mac, so options are a bit more limited, but I've tried pic2pat.com and MacStitch) to get a satisfactory pattern, but they either "checkerboard" different colors, giving a strange, grainy look (MacStitch), or there are blotches of different greens and blues in the water (p2p), which don't look so great. If there's anything else I can provide in terms of info, or a higher quality pic (?), let me know. I pulled this one just from Google Images.
I'm hoping to make this for the boyfriend this Christmas... or next.
Thanks so much!
