Pinkie Pie Tote Bag (Done!)

Post by ristvak »

Ok, quick post because my monitor keeps going spazzy every 10 minutes and forcing me to shut down and restart mid-everything >.< Which is SUPER helpful considering I really need to get a sprite and pattern done today ;~;

One of my (many) WIPs is a tote bag featuring the My Little Pony character Pinkie Pie.

Here's the sprite it's based off of:
Image
Most of the elegance is lost on the lettering because it's going to have some half and back stitches that I just can't showcase at this scale XD

And here's my current progress shot (This is at about 5 hours and 15 minutes worth of stitch time)
Spoiler

The final design will be about 5.5" wide by 6" tall (the bag is 10" x 8")

::edit:: 8/14 - 23 hours and 15 minutes worth of stitching later.... and I'm done!

Looking good! I haven't tried waste canvas yet. Do you like using it?

No XD

It's not terribly difficult, it's just a pain to get centered and then you have to tack it in place (as you can see I just use straight pins on the corners- so I stab myself quite often) and then the nightmare of all nightmares, sometimes it doesn't tear away @_@ I don't know if it has to do with age or if I just stitched on it incorrectly but on my first adventure with it when I went to pull it away it would snap underneath any stitching I did. Which is SO not helpful lol.

This is actually my second tote bag, my first one was much bigger and came together without a hitch.

There was just a learning curve to figuring out how to stitch a bag... It's very odd only being able to approach your project from one direction! (I'm left handed so I ended up holding it sideways with the opening to my left and turning my pattern paper the same way)

I still hate waste canvas though...

Looking good so far!! :D

I like your other bag too, very cute. :)

I've been thinking of doing a kitchen set for a friend, so it's good to hear some warnings on the waste fabric. :)

That looks really good so far, and I love your other bag!

I've never used waste canvas, but I have used the soluble one, which was very easy to work with. The only downside to it is that I've only ever managed to find it in single sheets, less than the size of an A4 piece of paper, which obviously doesn't help when you want to do larger projects like yours! For smaller stuff though, it works great!

I've seen the soluble but haven't had any interest in trying it out. The package I found looks bigger than that though, I'll have to take a closer look next time I find it =)
I hear you about the size though, waste canvas is "big" (12" x 12") but it's also 10 count so you're still pretty limited =/

And this is totally not meant as a waste canvas bashing thread XD I think it's good to try out different stitching techniques and fabrics. It's just not my cup of tea.

I went to JoAnn today, so while I was there I picked up some 14 count waste fabric because my friend wants me to stitch some sprites on shirts for him. I love your first bag! It came out great. I'm sure this one will be just as cute. I can't wait for more photos. Plus, I love tote bags. You can never have too many.

There I was at the store, and I was thinking, "okay, i'll just pick up this 1o count waste canvas." But there it was! 14 count! And I was all, "oooh, this will make me the bee's knees!"
