Super Swap 2014

Post by blackmageheart »

:wiz :wiz :wiz Welcome to the Super Swap 2014! :wiz :wiz :wiz

Thank you everybody for your patience while I got this all sorted out - sorry for the delay! Anyway, here we are at the start of the swap. Let me go over a few things.

Size limit - mini tier only
I have been looking at different sizes, what would be too small/big/stupid etc. I've decided that you should aim to fit all of your items inside an 8" (20.32cm) box. You don't have to use that specific box to send your items, but please try to keep within the limit as best you can.
Hopefully this is small enough to be used for mini, and large enough for people to make some small but decently sized stitchings or whatever you're making. :D

Deadline
The swap runs from now until 30th September - use as much of the time as you need but please aim to have your items sent by the last day. Anyone who encounters that funstopper called Life, let me know as soon as possible!

Shipping - problems, costs and stuff to be aware of
Please ensure that your gifts are well packed and not loose or likely to be damaged in transit. If you're sending overseas, make sure you have the correct customs declaration and have specified the items on the form. You may also need to check that the destination country can import certain items (depending on what you have in your package). Please also make sure to mark your package as a gift or there will be customs fees for the recipient (and they can be quite high). Anybody who needs help with customs, drop me a PM.
If you are having problems with shipping costs, contact me and I'll help you work something out!

Brain no worky
Ahh, a familiar tale. You sit there with the survey in front of you and nothing happens. If you are stuck for ideas or need help getting something right, I am always available - I've helped with many a gift in the past. ;)

Keep it secret!
Until your swappie receives the item(s) you have sent to them, please do not reveal what it is publicly. For example, no posting it on your blog or Facebook or anything like that. There's always a possibility that your swappie could see it and we want it to be an epic surprise, right? Right.

Questions and communication
Most of you will be familiar with this part already, but I need to reiterate it for the first-timers. All questions for your swappies MUST be relayed through me and I will reply to you when I have the answer(s) from the other party!

Use your noodle
Try something new! I always try to make something that nobody's made before if I can. If you have a particular strength, use it!

Above all, have fun
This I think is most important. Don't get yourself stressed out with the gifts, because I believe when you don't enjoy making something it will show in your items. Try to enjoy what you are doing, especially if it's something unique! Your swappie will love receiving a personal gift made exclusively for them! If you do get a bit stressed, don't sit and dwell on it, PM me asap :)

Right I think that's everything...my back is killing and I'm tired now! Any general questions, post em in this thread and I'll get to them tomorrow after some rest. :D

SWAPPIES, GO!

For the mini tier, would a prepaid satchel count for international sending? it's roughly 39 x 28.5cm.

*gets to making lists to do stuff* :D

Yes, of course!

Whoops, I meant a cube of 8"x8"x8" - sorry about that!

You can send it in the TARDIS if you want, as long as all your items will roughly fit inside the 8" cube. The cube box is just a theoretical box, if you see what I mean. :D

After reading my swapee's survey I'm pretty sure we would be best friends if we lived in the same part of the world! We put down some of the same things and I saw thing on their list that should have been on mine :D

This makes it both easier, and harder. Easy in that anything I'd like they will probably like but harder because designing for myself is really hard (I am my own worst critic).

I'm so excited! I'm not familiar with most of the things in my swapee's survey, but I do have an idea for one item already :D I'll definitely need to 'use my noodle' for this one, since it involves a number of new techniques :wiz Just mapping it out now, but I'll be ready to make a visit to the craft store soon!
