You are using an image program instead of hand drawing? Oooo, which ones do you use? I just started applique a few months ago and have beeen dependant on other people drawing my designs for me. I have Electric Quilt 7 which is great for designing quilts, but I have't figured out if it converts existing pictures into applique or not.

Well I'm using a basic image program like you would have on any old normal computer to convert some of the color to black and white, or make line art out of color pictures I want to use. There are video tutorials on how to make an image into line art using photoshop... and you can pretty much do the same with Gimp, which is what I use. Then since my plan is for 10 by 10 squares I'm aiming for an image that is roughly 8 inches and so I scale as needed to get a size that will fit the square. For my last two squares I wised up and actually flipped them horizontally before printing too. For original things like the Draenai and Nightelf portraits (bf and I's main chars from WoW) I had my most awesome friend that can actually draw help me out. However, I've learned that if you print an image from Preview (a default mac image program) it will attempt to scale to fit the page. Which is what I think happened that made my Link a bit larger than intended.

I'm tracing using my l̶i̶g̶h̶t̶b̶o̶x̶ ̶ dining room window onto the Steam 2 Seam I am using as my interfacing. (Thanks quilt shop lady!) Then its just peal and stick the one side that is drawn on onto the fabric. Cutting out the patches, peeling the other side of the fusible to stick down and ironing to make it really stick down before sewing.

Hope that helps clarify.

Ok, that is what I was afraid of, you have to do some basic drawing. ;) I am working on my designs for the monthly challenge and trying to convert a Mario sprite into applique sucks. I just can't seem to be able to draw it at all, even using the picture programs. I wish there was software out there that could turn your picture into a nice applique!

I love the squares you have done and they are turning out really nicely. You will find that applique is addicting and SO much easier then regular quilting.

I absolutely love the Katamari square! My favourite but they all look so great! This is an amazing idea!

I just bought a new sewing machine too! I got a Janome 2030. Now I just have to figure out how to use it! I was using my mom's old broken one on my quilt too. I figured it was time I bought my own, especially since she wanted her's back! :)

Got most of the big work done on a pair of Pikmin squares. I haven't figured out if there is a way to make a regular circle on the machine so I'll still need to hand embroider the eyes, and do some detail work on the onions.

Today I'm making a fabric excursion for a night elf face, and possibly for a better backing material for the Windy square since it was thin and all the stitching made it come out puckery.... My King of All Cosmos needs some purple thread, and Bastok needs some light blue thread that won't break every 20 stitches. Darn old thread!

Well the remaining squares are all a bit more work to get done. Though this morning I woke up with an epiphany of an idea to try to make some stitched circles... which would save me SO much hand work.

Here's an early version of Bastok Kingdom Flag (with lots of dots to do!):

And third times the charm for Windurst (The purple on the border is my disappearing ink pen I use to help doodle some lines I want to stitch. Sometimes I flub it pretty bad and then have to wait for it to disappear so I can try again):

I did some fiddling on Sandoria and it has so much detail work on it its going to take me a bit to sort out... so while I was thinking I finished up the Prince's face:

And here's an early preview of my last two squares based on some lineart a friend of mine did of our characters.

The backgrounds here are the "class colors" for the character
